When Andrew brought up the monetary issue being a problem, Josh simply nodded back. "If you're into retro titles so much, perhaps I could refer you to my employer. I do contract work for a developer called Shovelware Studios; they've known for reviving a lot of beloved, but abandoned, gaming properties. It's a win-win-win, for the fans, original rights holders, and the developers themselves. As long as you don't mind the frustration of squashing bugs, it's good money and can be really fun. You'd think it would be a copyright mess, but they've made it work."Josh's eyes perked up when Andrew mentioned a large Eevee migration fairly close by. "Thanks for the heads up." His thoughts drifted just thinking about it. "Could you imagine riding a Jolteon that was born wild? It'd be like riding a thunderstorm!" While a wild-born Jolteon wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as Blinky was, it would almost certainly be better for crossing the wilds of Ageos. When Josh saw his traveling companion was engaging with a rather uncouth individual, he was about to intervene...until Inari stepped up to defend Andrew. Right. As timid as Andrew was, he had his own team. It would be rude to interfere in the battle, though he stood by in case things got out of hand. In the carnage of the battle, the Croagunk accidentally kicked what appeared to be a used medicine container of some kind toward Josh and his Flareon. Upon further examination, it was still about half-full. While it wouldn't work as well as a brand new anti-paralytic, it would still work on less potent electric attacks. As Andrew put the finishing touches on healing Tweetie, he'd take some time to quickly and briefly groom the Swablu - carefully combing the tips of his nails along her feathers, to help put any mussed-up down back into place. Tweetie, however, would eventually give him a light nip on the fingers - to which he'd gently laugh. "Alright, alright..." He'd softly whisper to the Swablu, smiling in a fond and amused fashion as he allowed her to perch on his head once more. "I'll let you handle that,"
And indeed, Tweetie would get straight to work on preening and grooming herself - fixing any feathers that were even the slightest bit out of place, and rearranging any damaged feathers - until she looked as though she had never been in a fight in the first place! The Swablu, though an eager thrillseeker, also prided herself on her appearance - and on top of that, she naturally produced waterproofing oils similar to the Swannas she was descended from; which meant that as long as she kept up on preening (which she always did,) she was more than ready for any impromptu swimming!
With everything resolved though, Andrew would glance over to Josh - noticing the older trainer looking over what looked to be one of those medicine bottles... The yellow ones were paralyze heals, if he recalled correctly. Nonetheless though, the lack of any comment or reaction from Josh was... A little bit of a bummer, if he had to be honest - though he wouldn't say anything out of fearing being seen as needy, or an attention hog. Instead, he'd simply get up on Pinky's back, so that they could continue on...
... As they began to near Cerise City proper though, after some riding along, a rustling in the grass would catch Andrew's attention - the young boy somewhat clumsily bringing Pinky to a stop as he watched carefully. What was that? A wild pokemon?
Indeed, there was a wild Sentret in the grass - and she would pop up with as much grace as a little Normal-Type of her size could muster, with a theatrical little chirrup, as if to say 'Hello, I am here!'. She scampered up to perch atop a nearby rock - and in doing so, wasted no time in beginning to balance on her tail and groom herself. It was about now though, that something became quite obvious - namely, in that this Sentret was in rather unusual colors... "... A Shiny Pokemon..."
Andrew would blink in surprise at coming across a shiny pokemon like this so quickly - used to Tweetie perhaps being one of the few he had seen, in his time at home. However, he'd soon smile in a sort of giddy awe; happy to see such a pretty looking shiny pokemon. And the Sentret, in turn, seemed to be eating up this attention - turning and twisting her body every which way, as if to allow the others to get a look at every angle; she was quite the vain little Sentret! Did she want to show off to them?

Getting down from Pinky's back, Andrew would take the time to sit down on the ground before the Sentret - giving her the audience that she seemed to desire - alongside Inari and Laguna. "Hello there..." He'd speak softly to the Sentret - he almost wondered if he was speaking too softly, but the way that the normal-type's ears twitched implied that she could hear him - with an increasingly giddy smile on his face. "You're so pretty..."
Yes, she was indeed pretty, wasn't she? The Sentret would fluff up her own fur and smile confidently at the compliment - turning her nose up in a showoffish fashion - before glancing over to Josh and his pokemon, to see if they would be paying attention or not. (If anyone wasn't looking at her, the Sentret would be sure to chitter and squeak at them insistently until they did; she wanted to be the center of everyone's attention!)
With this little diva of a Sentret before him though, Andrew couldn't help but wonder as to how he could win her favor... Simply asking her to join him, alone, probably wouldn't be enough to catch her attention after all! And so, he'd decide to dig something out of his bag - a little tote of grooming supplies - and pull out a brush. "May I groom you?" He'd ask softly, to the Sentret. "I... Your fur is beautiful - and I think I, uhm, could help you look even more beautiful, if you're willing...?"
At this, the Scout pokemon would pause in her showing off for a few moments - quietly mulling over Andrew's request. For a moment, the young boy almost worried if he said something wrong, or overstepped a boundary... But the Sentret would soon gesture for him to come closer - to which Andrew obeyed, gingerly beginning his work in beautifying the Sentret.
Grooming a Sentret, for certain, was interesting - he had never actually gotten close and personal with these pokemon before, after all. But he at least knew the basics quite well - and it wasn't like this Sentret's fur had any strange qualities to it, besides the coloration that came with a shiny pokemon! Thus, he would begin by simply brushing out the normal-type's fur; starting at the body, as he carefully dislodged any debris that might've been stuck to her fur, as well as gingerly untangled any knots in it. (Even if she seemed to be quite particular about her appearances, it was tough for a wild pokemon to stay perfectly groomed on their own!)
All the while though, the Sentret seemed surprisingly receptive to the touch - letting out a gentle sigh, as she relaxed from her perched position. A brush, though strange to a wild pokemon, felt surprisingly good; prompting her to lean into the touch, whenever he'd bring the brush through her fur. "It's so thick," Andrew would murmur in observation, meanwhile - smiling warmly at the Sentret's receptiveness to this grooming session. "Must be cause it's getting pretty cold around here, hm?" In response, the Sentret chittered softly, prompting Andrew to chuckle.

Once the fur on the Sentret's body was brushed out though, Andrew would carefully brush along the back of the normal-type's ears, and her limbs - starting with her arms and legs, first. As the brush went over the ears, Andrew observed the way they would reflexively twitch and crook with a hue of amusement - visibly endeared - before moving on. Eventually, he'd reach the point where he'd have to brush the Sentret's tail - to which she would change position, standing on her two feet and lifting her tail a little, so that he could brush it properly.
If the fur along her body was thick though, the fur on her tail was positively plush - which made sense, given how easily it tended to hold its shape while supporting the Sentret's weight. Andrew couldn't help but feel his fingers along the fur as he brushed it - and indeed, the tail was just as soft as it looked, if not moreso. Being as touch-focused with his stimming as he was, being able to do this helped to ground and center his giddy emotions - steadying the hand that he was brushing with.
However, even as Andrew put the finishing touches on brushing the Sentret, he wouldn't be done at just that; deciding to next get out a comb, and a pair of trimming scissors. Though the Sentret seemed to shy away a little from the scissors initially, Andrew was quick to reassure her. "It's okay," He spoke softly. "It's just for trimming fur - see?" Pulling back his hood enough to show his hair, Andrew would use the scissors to trim a tiny bit off of a lock of hair to demonstrate - which seemed to be enough to get the Sentret to relax a little, allowing Andrew to resume grooming.
Thus, he'd begin trimming the Sentret's fur - using the comb to help make sure every bit of it was even and uniform, and to brush away any tiny bits of cut fur. This was a bit strange for the wild pokemon - and she would, every so often, try to twist and turn her body in an attempt to watch what Andrew was doing; though he would patiently reassure the normal-type - "I'm just making it all even; I'll give you a mirror once I'm done, okay?" - and wait until she would relax, before he'd resume trimming, going through the same process that he did when he had brushed her.
Trimming was overall longer and tougher work than brushing - but Andrew's patience would pay off when he'd eventually finish his work; pulling out a mirror from the grooming bag, as promised, to show to the Sentret. "There you go," He'd murmur, smiling warmly to the Scout Pokemon. "How's that?"
The difference, though a subtle one to the untrained eye (especially given that Andrew technically wasn't a professional yet,) it seemed to be enough to make the Sentret awed at her own reflection - twisting this way and that as she attempted to admire herself in the mirror with a keen gaze. This was what she looked like...? This was what she looked like...! Happily chittering, the Sentret soon resumed perching on her tail, gesturing animatedly to the others - wanting them to admire her improved looks just as much as she was admiring herself!
Seeing that his work was a success though, Andrew would chuckle warmly - smiling to the Sentret as he got to work putting away the grooming supplies. "I'm happy that you liked my work," He'd speak softly, pulling out a pokeball next - to offer to the normal-type. "Maybe... if you'd like me to try grooming you again sometime, we could be friends, and you could join me?" He'd suggest - adding "I want to be a Coordinator - so you could, uhm, maybe also show off in Contests with the others."
"... What do you think?"
I'd like to level my Dexterity, and am befriending this Sentret with a Nest Ball + Pokecharmer bonus!

Pinky seemed interested in Andrew's interaction with the Sentret, slowly drifting toward the two. As Josh had suspected, the young, white-haired man was truly empathetic toward Pokémon. This skill in winning the hearts of wild Pokémon was typical among Rangers and Coordinators, but this level of prowess was unlike anything he had ever seen from someone brand new to raising Pokémon. There was also another wild Pokémon, a Swirlix, curiously watching the wild be willingly groomed. Fairy-types were popular among Coordinators, though mostly of no interest to Josh; Pinky was an exception. He wanted to make Andrew aware of its presence, but thought better of it; he didn't want to disturb the two, after all! It took Josh a while to notice that the Sentret's sheen was different than others of its kind; this Sentret had a gold sheen, a result of a very rare combination of recessive genes. He couldn't help but let out a gasp afterward, stopping himself from saying anything more until after the golden Normal-type had made its decision. --- Andrew Markus Wynn NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good Meteos Aerodactyl 19 3 Good Pazuzu Pidgey 15 3 Good Snacker Carvanha 17 3 Good{WC: 177} {PC: 12}

As Andrew offered the pokeball to the Sentret, she would fall quiet - thoughtful - as she considered the offer. For a moment, Andrew wondered if she would decline it, but...
... Before too much longer, the little Sentret would chirrup, before bumping her head right into the pokeball; accepting joining his party! As the normal-type entered the pokeball, Andrew's eyes would light up with joy - smiling brightly, as he brought the ball close to his chest. Yet another teammate, under his belt..! And this was a cute little diva - what should her name be...
"... Vivian." Andrew would eventually murmur to himself, a gentle smile crossing his face. Or Vivi, for short. It was a cute name, in his opinion - and one that he thought fit the Sentret quite well. "C'mon out, Vivi,"
As the Sentret was let out, the newly-named Vivian would waste no time in letting out a squeak of joy, as if to say 'ta-da!', before scampering over to Andrew; perching on his shoulder! A bit crowded, Tweetie would chirp in a somewhat disgruntled fashion at Vivian - to which Vivian simply turned up her nose in a smug fashion, chittering right back. There was plenty of space here - it wasn't Vivi's fault that Tweetie had such big wings, in the Sentret's opinion!
"Easy, easy..." Patting both pokemon - so as to placate them before a disagreement broke out - Andrew would smile and chuckle sheepishly; smiling over at Pinky, as well, upon noticing the Sylveon's approach. "Hey there, buddy..." He'd speak softly, as he pet the fairy-type, before carefully mounting back up. Technically, he didn't need it - he could see Cerise City, right over there - but...
"... Thank you, for... S-sticking with me, and, uhm... Letting m-me borrow Pinky." He'd mention, over to Josh; his voice soft and shy as always, but still friendly. Today had been a great first start, to his adventure; and perhaps it'd be a sign, of just how well things would go in the future...

Josh looked so happy for Andrew when the Sentret decided to join Andrew on her own accord; he even briefly applauded. "You're way better at that than I ever could be; I've only ever known how to catch a Pokémon the old-fashioned way," he remarked, noting most of Andrew's captures on their trip were using this unconventional method...well, unconventional to him. "That's a good name for her," he added as the two seemed to be getting along well already. Many Normal-type Pokémon seemed eager to join trainers, from his experience. It made sense when he thought about it, too; the smaller ones often fell prey to flying Pokémon or other predatory types. "Ah, there's the gate," Josh pointed as Clyde joined Pinky once again. "If you need help with learning how to control...Laguna, was it?" Josh paused for a moment before resuming his thought. "Laguna, that was it. You need a hand with learning how to control your new Vaporeon, I can help. Once I'm done with my business in Slate City, I'll be back here; the racing season opener is in Cerise. It's not too far off either, and it's a lot of fun being in the stands. Don't be afraid to text me if you need more help!" With that, the fire-type slowed down after crossing into the city proper, ensuring they remained within posted speed limits. Andrew Markus Wynn{WC: 234} {PC: 13}

As Josh applauded and complimented Andrew, the young man would flush - a shy, but nonetheless thankful smile crossing his face. "T-thank you," He'd murmur to Josh with a gentle nod, reaching up to scritch Vivian behind the ear. The Sentret seemed to fuss a little over the touch - nudging at his hand until he angled it just right - but as soon as Andrew found that magic spot that Vivi seemed to be going for, right behind the ear, the Sentret would let out a gentle and relaxed sigh.
Going back to the subject of how good Andrew was at approaching Pokemon, though... "It, uhm... p-probably helps, that I, w-well, read a lot about p-pokemon..." He admitted softly. Having normally been a shut-in up to now, he had lots of time to read and study things that piqued his interest - which, pokemon were a big interest of his. "I... T-try my best, to undestand, uhm... Their behaviors, a-and so on..."
As the group continued on though, it didn't take much time at all until they'd reach the gate - something that Andrew was happy to see, after the excitement of today. As Josh spoke up, Andrew would glance over in the other's direction - nodding gently, at the offer to help learning how to ride Laguna. "I'll, u-uhm, keep that in mind." He'd agree - albeit noncommitally - with a gentle nod.
Getting down from Pinky's back, Andrew figured that this is where they would part - and smiling faintly to Josh, he'd murmur "Thank you, f-for, uhm... For today." with a slight fidget. Getting a break to recharge his (already small) social batteries would be nice, but...
... Today was a wonderful start to this adventure, to say for sure...
