A cool winter morning, crisp and beautiful. Andrew would pull the hood of his hoodie up to help conserve some warmth as he stepped out onto Route 1, observing the way that his breath would come out in misty puffs as he tentatively walked along; hands gripping at the strap to his messenger bag, fingers fidgeting along the nylon. His heart felt like it had picked up a few steps as it beat in his chest, a certain giddy yet anxious excitement filling his chest as the road crunched beneath his shoes, but...
... There was something exhilarating, in leaving town like this. In being able to step out of his house on his own, and see the world beyond.
And even that being said, it wasn't as though he was entirely alone; the warmth of Inari nuzzling against him as she walked alongside him, as well as the melodious trills of Tweetie above, both being welcome reminders that his closest friends were here to back him up. "Are you two excited, too?" Andrew would softly ask, as he reached a hand down to pet Inari, whilst glancing up towards Tweetie.
Inari and Tweetie both would give respective yips and trills of confirmation - Tweetie in particular sounding especially excited, as she did a little midair roll! For the Vulpix, she was simply happy to be with her trainer, and happy to see him finally getting out of the house proper; though Tweetie, no doubt, was excited at all the prospects that'd come with leaving home. New places! New people! She wanted to meet everything and everyone she could; and she hoped to encourage Andrew to meet them, as well!
Andrew, in seeing the duo's chipper moods, couldn't help a warm chuckle and smile; the anxious feeling in his chest lifting away a little bit. Perhaps, as they make their way towards the next town, they could make some new friends with a few wild pokemon along the way...?
Who knew what today would have to offer, for the shy young man, and his two companions...

While on his way to the mountains and to Slate City, Josh had a brief pit stop to make in Shire Town. Why did Professor Pear want paper copies of his reports anyway? It was 2021 for Arceus' sake - had she not heard of secure e-mail? Perhaps she was old-fashioned, but that was certainly not something he picked up from her personality on hs day of departure. Either way, now that pain-in-the-butt was over, it was time to spend a day with some of the newcomers to the team. Once he was a safe distance away from Shire's west gate, Josh let out his entire team; he wished he could have brought Blinky with him, but she was going to be on the DL for quite some time, what with her claws needing to be repaired. While it was just a minor surgery, she wouldn't be able to run while her claws were still healing. The rest of the tacked-up Eeveelution crew was here, though; Pinky, the Sylveon who cheerfully ran alongside Josh; Clyde, the Flareon he was astride; and finally, Inky, the Glaceon who was looking for trouble. While the ice-type wore a saddle, it was purely for decoration as of yet. The three newcomers were Snacker, a Carvanha who kept his distance from Josh as to not splash him with the water pillar keeping him afloat, and the two aerial members of his team: Meteos and Pazuzu. The Aerodactyl was comfortable taking the rear, flying well above his trainer to scour for trouble. As Clyde picked up the pace, Josh guided the Flareon away from the far side of the road, to try to avoid startling what appeared to be a Vulpix, Swablu, and new Trainer. Josh did turn his head toward the three to get a glimpse of what the Pokémon were. Walking along the road, Andrew had expected the possibility that he'd meet other newbie trainers like himself - even if it were only perhaps one or two other trainers. Although, as he walked along - Tweetie having since decided to perch on his head, her wings wrapped around herself like an odd cotton hat - the trio would soon notice an interesting entourage on the road with them. A trio of large-looking Eeveelutions, a Carvanha, as well as an Aerodactyl and Pidgey... Awed, Andrew couldn't help but stop in his tracks to admire the pokemon as they moved along. Such impressive pokemon...
In fact, the young man wouldn't even quite notice Josh on the back of the Flareon - at least, not until Tweetie decided that she wanted to greet them! Taking flight, Tweetie would begin to tweet and trill at Josh and his pokemon in greeting - flitting about them, before she would decide to roost atop Josh's head; getting comfortable and wrapping her wings around herself, just as she had been doing with Andrew! (Thankfully, despite her huge size, Tweetie was quite a lightweight pokemon.)
Andrew, though, would be more than a little startled at Tweetie's sudden boldness; blinking owlishly. "A-ah; Tweetie, what a-are you doing..??" He'd half-stammer as he spoke; made anxious by his Swablu's own boldness. He'd be somewhat frozen in his tracks as he tried to figure out how to get to Tweetie down from the older trainer's head, without bothering Josh or any of his pokemon! "I-Uhm...!?"
Tweetie, however, would call to Andrew in a sing-song trill. Come on, come over here, she wanted to encourage him! Come get her, so that he can try to talk to this human! Inari, meanwhile, could only sigh and shake her head. Though this was the first time that Tweetie has attempted such a tactic to try to get Andrew talking to people, she was still quite aware of the Swablu's desire to help him open up to others more. She'd nonetheless attempt to reassure Andrew with a nuzzle against his side - making the young trainer jump a little, as he finally found his words.
"I-uhm-I'm s-sorry, about, well... T-tweetie, she's... never done this b-before.." He'd stammer, fidgeting as he'd carefully try to make his way towards Clyde and Josh, to retrieve the Swablu. What would Josh do, in reaction to the cheeky Tweetie's antics...?

Josh first flinched when the giant Swablu perched on his head, Clyde interpreting the sudden jerk at her reins to be a command to slide to a stop. She kicked up a lot of dist as part of her slide, then reared, startling her rider as he nearly tumbled off. "Whoa!" he yelled as his hands slipped, forced to dig his hands into his Flareon's uncomfortably-warm fur to stay aboard before she landed on all fours once more. As Josh caught his breath, whatever it was that was latched onto him started singing - and it was a beautiful voice, too. As soothing as the song was, couldn't whatever it was that was doing so pick a place other than his head to stand? Once they stopped, Josh was about to run his right hand over his head to shoo away whatever was up there, if a human voice didn't stop him. While the voice was full of stammering, the intent was obviously there. He turned Clyde around to face the young man. "I'm impressed at how strong the little guy is!" he answered after a couple of heavy breaths, trying to pick his words carefully as to not accidentally offend the clearly nervous trainer. He may have, though, considering he inadvertently misgendered Tweetie. "All I ask is that if this is your Swablu, would you mind getting him off my head, please?" Pinky looked patient as ever, smiling and cooing to greet the young trainer and Vulpix. Even Meteos tried to smile, though any facial expression of the saddled Aerodactyl was probably intimidating. --- Andrew Markus Wynn NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good Meteos Aerodactyl 17 3 Good Pazuzu Pidgey 15 3 Good Snacker Carvanha 17 3 Good{WC: 263} {PC: 2}

Tweetie couldn't help a surprised trill at Clyde's rearing - yet all the same, she sounded far more excited than scared in any regard. This sudden brief rodeo was fun, for the daredevil little Swablu! Andrew, though, couldn't help but wince at the chaos that Tweetie briefly caused - his expression twisting into one of concern and embarrassment. Oh dear...
As Josh spoke though, once things calmed back down, Andrew would shakily nod; fidgeting as he made his way closer to the older adult. "I-I'm sorry, but, uhm... T-Tweetie's, a, g-girl." The shy boy would manage to stammer out, quickly adding a second "S-sorry..." as he reached his hands up, towards Tweetie; clicking his tongue, as if calling over a cat. Arceus, he didn't know how to feel about all of this - he felt a bit ashamed, of Tweetie causing this sort of mischief; what had gotten into the Swablu?
Tweetie, however, would thankfully know when enough was enough; making a cheery and almost congratulatory trill as she fluttered down from Josh's head; landing atop Andrew's own, as she once more wrapped her wings around herself. Briefly, Inari would give Tweetie a disgruntled-sounding yip - scolding Tweetie for putting Andrew in such an awkward situation, and potentially getting another trainer hurt; but the bird pokemon would simply respond with a cheery and untroubled tweet, pointing out that everything had gone just fine, and that this would be a wonderful chance for their trainer to find someone to talk to!
At Pinky's cooing and smile, and Meteos' own smile, though, Andrew couldn't help but find his attention drawn towards Josh's pokemon; that previous awe returning, helping him to calm down some. "So big..." He couldn't help but murmur in admiration, as he carefully reached out to Pinky, to gently scritch the Sylveon behind the ear. And on top of them being big, some of them were even wearing saddles... Were these pokemon being trained as steeds? With his focus drawn away from Josh, and to his pokemon instead, Andrew couldn't help a slight smile - visibly fascinated at the variety the rider had, as he'd softly murmur to them "Hello there, everyone... Such impressive pokemon..."
Tweetie, too, seemed quite interested in all of these potential new friends - doing a few melodious chirps in greeting, as she waved a wing to everyone. Inari, as well, would briefly yip - although she'd otherwise be much more mild about her greeting, being more focused on keeping track of Andrew's mood. It was their jobs, after all, to be there for their trainer if he began getting overwhelmed.

Josh immediately apologized for misgendering Tweetie, gently patting Clyde's head to get her to calm down. "It's hard to tell the difference between a male and a female." Seeing Inari scold the poor Swablu brought Josh back to his first days as a trainer in Johto, back when he was barely of age. He made many of these same mistakes, as well. "What matters most is that we learn from our mistakes, not repeat them. I'm sure your Swablu will understand when she grows up." He made sure to thank the young trainer for getting the flying-type off his head. "Who are you? I'm Josh Devlin, an amateur Pokémon racer looking to turn pro; I do the Gym Challenge on the side, especially during the offseason when it's cold."As the two traveled, Josh's head turned toward Pinky, who was laughing from being tickled behind the ear. "That's Pinky, my Sylveon. He'll run his first race in April. Beneath me is Clyde; she'll also run her first race in April. Meteos, my Aerodactyl, is still learning how to balance with a rider, but he's making good progress. The others are Inky, Pazuzu, and Snacker," he gestured toward the Glaceon, Pidgey, and Carvanha, respectively, who were making conversation with Inari and Tweetie. "Where you headed? If you're headed to Cerise, I'm on the way there myself. Pinky could get you there a lot faster."--- Andrew Markus Wynn NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good Meteos Aerodactyl 17 3 Good Pazuzu Pidgey 15 3 Good Snacker Carvanha 17 3 Good{WC: 234} {PC: 3}

As Josh apologized, Andrew would nod quietly; his mouth briefly opening as though he were about to say something, before quickly closing. No, this random trainer on the street didn't need to know a random ramble on the typical differences between male and female avian pokemon - and Andrew felt silly for having initially considered going on a ramble about such. Instead, as Josh introduced himself, and asked Andrew who he was, the young boy would chew his lower lip a little - considering his words. "I-I'm... Andrew." He'd mumble in response, reaching up to feel his fingers along one of Tweetie's wings; the action being quite soothing for him.
That Josh was an aspiring racer, though, was certainly an interesting notion; and it definitely explained why he had so many large pokemon saddled up like that. It made Andrew briefly wonder, just what sort of ride pokemon Tweetie and Inari would be, when they both evolved? He knew well enough that with how big they were now, they'd be quite huge as an Altaria and Ninetales duo! But between Tweetie being a bit of a thrillseeker, whereas Inari was more mild and laid back... Huhm.
Perhaps he'd see, once the time came for them to evolve.
In any case, as Pinky began to laugh, Andrew couldn't help but laugh with; visibly growing relaxed when his focus was more on the other pokemon. The Eeveelutions all ranged from cute, to beautiful, to cool - all of which were qualities that Andrew could appreciate greatly - and it helped that the pokemon seemed quite friendly, for the most part. As Josh spoke up though, Andrew's shoulders jumped a little - the young man being visibly surprised upon being back to reality and reminded that - oh yeah, there was another trainer here.
Josh, though, would simply be taking the time to introduce each of his pokemon - to which Andrew nodded along, glancing at each of the indicated pokemon. "It's... n-nice to meet, uhm, you all." He'd smile softly, albeit sheepishly, adding "M-my Swablu, and Vulpix, th-they're uhm... Tweetie, and, Inari... They're... Emotional s-support pokemon, for me."
As Josh's pokemon were making conversation with the two indicated pokemon though, Inari and Tweetie would both respond in kind; Tweetie's mannerisms being peppy and happy-go-lucky, whereas Inari's mannerisms were polite and mild as could be - both pokemon being equally friendly nonetheless. Tweetie would even wave to a couple of water pokemon hanging around a pond, a Buizel and Slowpoke, as they passed by!
At the question of Andrew going to Cerise though, and the offer for a ride, the young man would blink a bit. "O-Oh! Uhm... Yes, I'm... Going to Cerise." He'd murmur, before sheepishly continuing "It's f-fine, though, I'd... uhm... I wouldn't w-want to trouble y-..."
Tweetie, however, was quick to cut in here - making encouraging sing-song tweets at Andrew, and gesturing with her wings like... A cheerleader? Was she trying to encourage the young man? Inari and Andrew would blink a bit owlishly at this, though the Vulpix would sigh, and give Andrew a gentle nudge in the Sylveon's direction with a reassuring nuzzle to his hip. Both pokemon seemed to be insisting that it was fine - and though Andrew would fidget and hesitate initially...
... He'd eventually take in a deep breath, and nod; stammering out a quick "T-th-thank you," as he finally decide to accept the offer; carefully climbing into Pinky's saddle, a hand petting the Sylveon as he moved. Being seated up on a large pokemon like this was a bit strange and new to him, but... "... Soft..." He'd quietly whisper to himself in observation, as he felt at Pinky's fur - stimming to calm his beating heart down a little.

Understandably, Andrew seemed nervous around new trainers; Josh was that way when he was young. He had very few friends growing up, but the friends he spent time with were very close. "Andrew, would you mind speaking up? I can barely hear you," he requested, the breeze muffling his hearing a little. He simply smiled as Andrew seemed quite interested in the race-trained Pokémon he had; after all, it wasn't every day you saw such big Pokémon! When Josh heard that Tweetie and Inari were emotional support Pokémon, he didn't quite know what to say. He didn't want to accidentally offend Andrew; he already almost did when he mis-gendered Tweetie. "They'll make great partners for you!" was all that came out of his mouth for a bit before continuing, "I've heard you have to have a special kind of permission to have dragon Pokémon in Ageos. I wonder how you'd get that? I wanted to bring a Dragonair here, but apparently it's against the law to bring her into the region without special credentials of some kind. You might need them to evolve Tweetie, too. When you do, though, she'll make a fantastic pair of wings for you!" He briefly looked back to Meteos, which would eventually be his pair of wings; the racer also caught a glimpse of a Dewpider sliding across patches of the frozen Roch River, playing with other water-types including a Buizel. When Andrew at first seemed reluctant to hop aboard Pinky, the Sylveon gently rubbed his feelers against his hands. Both the fairy-type and the trainer seemed happy that the shy trainer was warming up to him and his team. "Alright, Pinky's easy to control - you can either tug at his reins or lean in the direction you want to turn, and apply pressure with your legs for speed. Let's go!" With that, he coaxed Clyde into a westward canter, but not so fast that Andrew wouldn't be able to get used to such a pace with Pinky first. --- Andrew Markus Wynn {WC: 340} {PC: 4} NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good Meteos Aerodactyl 17 3 Good Pazuzu Pidgey 15 3 Good Snacker Carvanha 17 3 Good

Upon being asked to speak up, Andrew's shoulders would jolt and scrunch up a little; the young man feeling a sudden spike of nervousness in his gut as he realized, oh, right, Josh can't hear him like this. Right. He should speak up. "I, uhm..." Initially, Andrew would stammer a little again; looking nervous and unsure, as he tried to find his words. When he did manage to finally speak though... "I... S-sorry..!"
... He'd find himself speaking up a little louder than he technically had to; half-squeaking his words out. Immediately, his cheeks would flush in embarrassment, eyes quickly averting in a vague feeling of shame. Arceus, why did he say it like that? That must've sounded so awkward; what was Josh going to think of him now...?
Inari and Tweetie, upon seeing that their trainer was starting to get stressed, were quick to act to help in calming him down - the Vulpix lovingly nuzzling Andrew's side and rubbing up against him, whilst Tweetie made soft chirpy trills. Almost as an automatic response, Andrew would reach up with one hand to stroke at Tweetie's wings, and down with the opposite hand to stroke at Inari's head; toying with the curls on the Vulpix's head, as he took in a deep breath to try and ease his anxieties.
Thankfully though, the subject would shift to something he was more comfortable with; namely, pokemon. As Josh pondered about what the 'special permission' to have a dragon-type might be like though, whilst talking about his own Dragonair that he wanted to import, Andrew nodded a bit. "D-Dragonair are... r-really pretty." He'd speak with a faint smile, adding "I... w-want to raise dragon pokemon, like Tweetie, s-someday." Dragon pokemon were so beautiful, so majestic, so cool... Pokemon who could use aura like himself, too, could be neat as well; to learn from, and maybe even relate to a little.
As Pinky reached his feelers over to Andrew's hands though, the touch seemed to have a positive effect; the young man blinking a bit, before being unable to help a soft laugh. "S-such a sweetheart..." He'd praise Pinky, giving the feelers a gentle squeeze to reciprocate as he let out a more relaxed-sounding sigh. People were stressful for him to talk to and interact with, honestly; but pokemon were almost always wonderful...
As Josh gave instructions for how to control Pinky, Andrew nodded in response - gently but firmly gripping the reins. Carefully, he would nudge Pinky into a trot, getting a feel for directing the Sylveon as Inari kept pace alongside him. Once Andrew was confident he was getting a feel for directing Pinky, though, he would pick up the speed just a little to match Josh's own; a bright smile starting to cross his face. This was great!
As if picking up on Andrew's lifting mood, Tweetie would make a few melodious and joyous trills; but there was also a certain desire in the Swablu's mind. Though she doubted that Andrew would necessarily be down to the idea, she wanted to go fast! In an attempt to communicate this, she would begin chirping down at Andrew, and 'squeezing' at the sides of his head with her wings, much to the boy's confusion!
"T-Tweetie, what are you trying to do...?" He'd ask, trying to gaze up at where the Swablu was perched on his head, although the angle was understandably awkward. In response, the Swablu would squeeze her wings around his head once more, before gesturing her wings to 'point' forward, tweeting a few more times...! Andrew would blink a bit, quizzical - although when Inari darted forward a short distance and yipped to him, what the pokemon were trying to convey to him would suddenly click. "Oh! Uhm..."
Briefly, Andrew glanced over to Josh and Clyde, then down at Pinky - taking a second to find his words, before responding "I, uhm... D-don't think we s-should go too fast, Tweetie..." The Swablu had always been one to seek excitement, and he supposed that that would be true even now. But he didn't want to risk going too fast - what if something tripped Pinky up and they fell, or what if there's another person or pokemon on the road ahead? He certainly wouldn't want anyone to get hurt..!
What would Pinky and Josh make of all this, though?

The two seemed to have an agreement that Dragon-type Pokémon were majestic. "There aren't a whole lot of Pokémon that can both swim and fly. Dragonair is one of them. I'd never evolve her, though." The conflict of a Pokémon wanting to evolve, yet the trainer not wanting that same Pokémon to evolve, kept many trainers from growing close to such Pokémon. While his Dragonair wasn't keen on holding back evolution at first, she had warmed up to the idea after quite some time. "Could you imagine being on a Pokémon that could effortlessly jump from sea to sky?" Clyde shook her head as Josh leaned back and forward, shifting his weight about like he was stop a swooping, aerial Pokémon. It took quite a bit of time for Pinky and Andrew to catch up to Josh, but they eventually were able to keep up with the Flareon's brisk pace. While it was cold, the wind in Josh's face felt great, though if he really wanted to push Clyde to high speeds, he would likely need to flip his helmet visor down. "If only Blinky was feeling better," Josh mused aloud as the two passed the fork leading to the main trail into the Emerald Forest. Of course, the forest was missing its telltale emerald color in the colder season. "Blinky is a Jolteon about Clyde's size. She was bred especially for racing, so she can't fight well. I'll be able to race her for the first time when the Spring season starts up!"By now, Josh had noticed Andrew's innate talent; he was handling himself very well with Pinky - no accidents or sudden swerves. Even through her acceleration, he was handling the Sylveon perfectly. When he noticed him talking to Tweetie over holding back Pinky's speed, he realized Andrew was one of those people that probably needed to be pushed toward the area outside the limits, or they would go totally unexplored. "You're pretty good! But can you keep up with us? Clyde, let's pick up the pace! Yah!" With a quick jab to the fire-type's sides, her fluffy tail flew behind her wildly as she accelerated from a brisk jog to a run. He slowly guided the Flareon toward the short grasses on the side of the road, just to make sure he didn't have any untimely crashes with other travelers. --- Andrew Markus Wynn NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good Meteos Aerodactyl 17 3 Good Pazuzu Pidgey 15 3 Good Snacker Carvanha 17 3 Good{WC: 400} {PC: 5}

Pokemon that could both swim and fly... "... T-think Altaria, uhm, can do both, too..." Andrew would muse out loud, gently scritching the top of Tweetie's head. It helped that Tweetie - having had a Swanna parent - also just loved water in general, and was good at staying afloat; but he felt like she'd be able to both swim and fly with ease, even if she wasn't necessarily a fast swimmer, if the need ever arose. Watching Josh leaning about though, as he mimed out what it must be like to be riding a Dragonair, would prompt a soft and shy laugh from the young boy. Riding a serpentine pokemon that could fly must be pretty tricky; though an Altaria would probably make a comparatively smoother ride...
At the brisk pace that the group was going at, Andrew would let out a gentle sigh at the feel of the cool wind against his skin. He was glad that he had dressed warm today though, with his jeans and hoodie and the like. If he had been going out here in a lighter outfit, he likely would've been getting quite chilly! His glasses, too, did well in keeping his eyes from drying out or getting irritated by the cool wind.
As Josh began talking about another Eeveelution he had though - Blinky the Jolteon - Andrew couldn't help but, well, blink a couple times as he began realizing something. "T-they're all, uhm... Named a-after Pacman Ghosts...?" He'd ask softly and quizzically, glancing over the individual Eeveelutions. Was Josh a bit of a videogame nerd, like himself...?
Well, before any further conversing could go on, it seemed that Josh first wanted to see them pick up the pace! Blinking owlishly, Andrew watched as Josh and Clyde darted on ahead - and even Inari and Tweetie both seemed a bit surprised! As soon as that surprise faded though, Tweetie was quick to react - gesturing with her wing, and trilling at Andrew; trying to encourage him to get a move on as well! "A-alright, alright..." Andrew murmured in response, seeming a little unsure still, but... Keeping to the short grass like Josh did, was certainly a good idea... "Well... Let's go, too, Pinky..!"
With a squeeze at Pinky's sides, Andrew would encourage the Sylveon onwards - attempting to keep up with the duo, as Inari kept pace at their heels! Tweetie, all the while, was trilling and chirping in excitement and joy; clearly full of glee, for the speed they were going at...!

Josh couldn't help but let out a chuckle when Andrew realized the naming scheme for his four large Pokémon. "They are! We seem to have a lot in common," he replied, the remainder of his Pokémon keeping pace not too far behind. "Used to play a lot more before I found a career. Still get to play a lot in the winter, though a lot of it involves contract work for indie devs. Gotta pay the bills somehow!"Tweetie looked like she was having the time of her life when Pinky sped up to match the Flareon's brisk run. "Fun, isn't it?" Josh asked, though he couldn't feel a lot of the wind in his face due to his visor being down. His eyes shifting about to watch for traffic, Josh noticed a small, quadrupedal fox Pokémon in the distance. Nickit, they were called. Last season, he had raced Saber, his Manectric, against a few Thievul; they were quite a challenge to hold off. "Hold up, I'm gonna try to catch this thing!" He pulled back on Clyde, coaxing her to slow down as to not blow right past the dark-type wild. "Meteos!" Josh pointed toward first the Aerodactyl, then the wild Pokémon. "Dive at it!" The ancient Pokémon wheeled skyward and crashed toward the unsuspecting Nickit with scary speed; it was speed Josh would have to learn how to control himself if he wanted to bring the rock-type along for aerial races. When it looked like Meteos and the wild were able to collide, the Aerodactyl started vigorously flapping his wings, crashing them into his foe and sending it flying high into the air from the reflected gusts. It narrowly avoided a follow-up chomp from the large Pokémon's serrated jaws before retaliating with a big bop to the schnoz. Terrified for its life, the fox started running away. "Not so fast!"
