At last, there was a bit of a thaw in the Cerise area; with temperatures several degrees above freezing, the Training Grounds' outdoor facilities were temporarily opened until the next big snowfall came. Josh planned on taking full advantage of that, bringing his entire Eeveelution team to the outdoor courses to keep them in shape before the next season started. He closely held Inky's reins while checking in, the Glaceon more fidgety than his brother and sisters. His gear was lightweight and minimal, like the other three Pokémon Josh had with him.
The first place the racer took all four of his race-ready Pokémon was to an obstacle course designed for a wide variety of Pokémon types. He had a couple others with him as well, including Illumina. All of them stopped in front of the course's starting line, Inky flinching when Josh rest his hand on the deep blue saddle the ice-type wore. "You're not going to get through this on your own, Inky," Josh assured the independent ice fox, deep blue scarf dangling from his sides. "You'll need to work with Clyde, Illumina, and the others. None of you will make it unless all of you work together." Inky closed his eyes and tilted his head to the heavens.
"I know. I know you want to do it all yourself," Josh reassured the Glaceon, continuing to pat the blue saddle with his right hand. The short fur on his neck and head started to spike up. Perhaps something was wrong? "...Gimme a little bit," the racer sat down next to the Glaceon and examined his tack. One of the straps holding it in place was buried in blue fur! He loosened it one notch before standing up and patting the Glaceon's saddle again. "That better?" All he got back was a sigh. "Now, think you can handle working with me?"
The racer swung his leg over the ice-type and mounted up, Inky immediately rearing. Thankfully, Josh had a good hold, but was his mount ever being unruly! He at first ran with it. "Now, let's go!" When he jabbed at the Glaceon's sides for speed, his Pokémon reared again, then started thrashing and bucking. The brief adrenaline rush Josh got augmented his strength enough to hold on briefly before Inky performed a powerful reversal that dislodged the rider and sent him rolling into one of the poles holding the start line's banner in place. Though Josh stood up after a couple minutes, he was still quite shaken. He expected Glaceon to be a gentle mount, but this one had amazing strength! He thought about picking up some Technical Records to take advantage of such physical strength for future Gym matches. Not until after this was over, though.
Inky made one thing deafeningly clear: he was not willing to work with Josh directly. "If not me, then with my Pokémon...please?" Not wanting to take anything to chance, he carefully pat Blinky's head at its soft spot before climbing aboard Pinky. The four of them took off down the course at Josh's command, Inky eager to lead. He guided the four Pokémon and trainer down the left path at the first fork, soon running into the first obstacle: a metal gate wrought by Steel-type Pokémon. "Inky, I'm gonna need you to work with Clyde on this one. Neither one of you can get through this gate on your own. But if you two work as a team, you can do it! Just follow my lead...please?"
