"Today too, let's work hard!" Tetsu cheered. His team this time around consists of... Let's see... A tiny Squirtle (Turquoise), a Mudbray (Copper), Riku of course, Rutile, and finally Sphalerite and Verdelite (Snivy). As much as he wanted to call Tourmaline, he think he have been working her a bit too hard. She should get a rest now and then. So there are two low levels (Verdelite and Copper), three high levels (Riku, Rutile and Sphalerite) and one mid levels (Turquoise). By the way, currently the EXP share is on Copper. Tetsu is riding Sphalerite at it too!
"Ettie, how are you doing there?" he asked just in case. "Is it cold for ya?"
They're going to Slate City which apparently on eastern side of a mountain. It's also a mining city, where he think he could revive his fossils. He really want to get some fossils out... Well, except the Old Amber. He already have Hauyne after all. He maybe will try to sell it to someone... maybe. Either way!
"If you or your pokemon need a break to warm up, we can take some!"
To avoid getting snowed in unfortunate condition considering it's winter after all, Tetsu chose a day after seeing weather forecast and goes at the morning. So in case snow did fall, they won't be frozen to death late at night. With Sphalerite, the chance of that happening is quite low though. To take a shortcut, or to take the scenic route... Tetsu prefer to take the scenic route... as it's easier to find places to rest in scenic route. The shortcut through the mountain will be probably too tiring for Pierre.
"Hmm... let's see, where are we at the moment?" Tetsu mused as he opened his map.

This mountain route was going to be some rough terrain, for sure; and for this reason, Ettie was glad that she had Aster at her side. Though these were unfamiliar territories for the Absol, he could easily navigate even the toughest of routes with ease, given his wild origins. Anne and Leon, too, would both be at her sides; following at Aster's heels with ease as they made their way along. Meanwhile, Prince would be curled up in the young girl's lap - eyeing their surroundings carefully - as Scarlet was set at her hip, and Cassie was astride Leon's back; happily peering around at her surroundings!
Perhaps Cassie wasn't the best for mountain explorations like this; but Ettie wanted to give the Popplio a chance to be out and about, and see the world, too! And with the Lucky Egg in hand, she was sure to grow up nice and quick, to catch up with the rest of her peers in no time.
At Tetsu's call though, asking about if it was cold, and mentioning that they could take a break if they need one, Ettie would hum a bit; adjusting her jacket around herself as she took stock of the temperature. Certainly, it was chilly... But she would say that she's pretty used to winters like these, too; and she had Prince, and her jacket, to both help stay warm...! "I'm good!" She'd eventually chirp to the other trainer - adding "Riding on Aster, and with Prince, is nice and warm!"
<Cold no problem,> Cassie added with a bwark, smiling and waving to Tetsu in a gesture of 'all clear.' Leon, too, would murmur <Thick coat. Prevents cold.> With that, Ettie would smile and glance to Tetsu - adding "Sounds like Cassie and Leon will be fine in this weather, too!"
With that though, there would be the question of which way the group would go. As Tetsu mused to himself and opened up his map, Ettie would bring Aster up alongside Sphalerite so that she could peek over the boy's shoulder - wondering if she could make heads or tails of the map. She, admittedly, still couldn't really read; but she was still plenty curious of what she might see! "Which way are we going?"

The moment Blinky had open space, she ran out of the Pokémon Center and jumped at Josh with a gleeful smile on her face, knocking the trainer over and licking him repeatedly. "No kisses!" Josh pleaded with the Jolteon, who stopped and stood away from him far enough to let the Trainer back up. "I know you're excited, and I am too. I'm so happy you're okay!" He gave the electric-type a gentle hug, his coat's insulation keeping him safe from the prickly fur. Once the two reached Cerise's north gate, Josh saw Blinky's head turn toward him, her eyes shifting toward her back. "Let me see your claws first before we do anything reckless," the responsible Trainer asked. She again obliged. "Hmm, they're normal-sized for a Jolteon. Definitely artificial. Probably a stand-in for when the real thing grows back." That would take several months, but at least Blinky could race in the meantime. The surgery would cut into her raw speed a bit, but would give her significantly more traction. Conveniently, that would make it a lot easier to control in races. Josh sent out the rest of his saddled Eeveelution crew; Pinky and Clyde seemed excited to see the Jolteon again, while Inky was in another one of his cranky moods. "Hey Inky, I need you to work with me. I might need your help when we get to the top of this trail. It's above the snow line, and you're really good with ice. If I need you, can you just...not buck me off for a change?" The Glaceon turned her head the other way and closed her eyes. "...Clearly the word 'team' is not in your vocabulary," Josh muttered as he swung aboard his Jolteon, the four race-ready Eeveelutions galloping up the mountain trail. --- Tetsu Asterite Ettie NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Blinky Jolteon 17 3 Good Bladestorm Skarmory 15 3 Good Twilight Absol 19 3 Good Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good{WC: 300} {PC: 1}

"Oh, you're fine huh? In case if you need any more warm clothes, I have my blanket. Don't be shy to ask for it when the time come!" Tetsu told Ettie. "I'm glad that you're fine though... but... are you OK with such thin clothes? Do you want to buy some clothes later when we arrived to Slate City? Or maybe some blanket? Insulation of our secret base admittedly isn't quite the best. I think it's good idea to get something warm just in case."
...And thus he remembered that Ettie asked him and his Pokemon to sleep with her. While most respectfully declines (Tourmaline even goes as far as entering the PC to prevent herself from being too affected by the chill), he, Rutile (who apparently, like a tsundere she is, pretend to reject but accepted in the end) and Riku (who was unable to fight Duchess-Ettie pleading combo) ended up sleeping together. It was warm. Ridiculously so. But even so, it wasn't bad. His top was chill and feels nice, but the part below his neck was warm. Tetsu liked it. The feeling of weight of Anne laying on top of his leg also wasn't bad. Felt like a thick blanket and he doesn't mind. Surprisingly, he ended up sleeping soundly and even woke up slightly late the day after from how comfortable it was.
"Cassie and Leon are fine too huh! That's good!" he was a bit surprised when Ettie came up to meet him though to look at the map. Seem he was concentrating. "Well, here," he zoomed out the part of the map "the blue triangle is us at the moment... and the pathway that lined in green is where we should go to. It's the safest, traffic free route so to say. If it turns red, then that means there are incident on the way. Anyway, it seems we're going to take path that sorta a bit rough. So be prepared for a bit of bumpy ride. It'll end around a creek. I think we can replenish our drink there and probably even cook some meal later to replenish our energy. Do you think that's a good plan? Or should we just go to Slate City? I'm not in particular hurry to be honest, and prefer to enjoy the nature myself. Maybe we'll find new Pokemons to befriend too!"

Thin clothes? Ettie would tilt her head a little - glancing down at her jacket in particular. "I dunno if my jacket's all that thin..." She'd hum to herself, feeling the leather between her fingers briefly. "It keeps me warm just fine; and so do my other clothes! But... If you think we should get warmer clothes, I don't mind!" She, admittedly, didn't see the point in needing new clothes quite yet; these ones that she had were still intact, after all. She wouldn't pass up an opportunity to have backup clothes, however!
As Tetsu was lost in thought, thinking back to the sleepover the two had in the new den, however... Ettie would instead be checking on her other pokemon; gently scritching at Prince's head. "How're you feeling, buddy?" She'd softly ask - to which the Fennekin would nervously avert his eyes, even as he leaned into his trainer's touch. <... Okay.> He'd respond simply, ears twitching a bit. With this more varied group, he didn't feel quite as out-of-place, but he definitely still felt a little shy.
Ettie was okay with that, however; she was sure that he'd warm up to the pack with time.
"And how about you, Scarlet?" The Honedge in question would hum briefly and wordlessly; an open eye darting about and gazing at their surroundings, as if looking to see if there was anything nearby. Ettie, admittedly, was having a hard time getting a read on the ghost-type; given that she was far more used to mammalian pokemon, especially canids. However, Scarlet at least seemed amicable to everyone - which was enough for Ettie to be happy.
<Seems all clear,> Anne would comment without needing any prompting; as she sniffed at the air; ears twitching a bit. There weren't any signs of wild pokemon, nor any other travelers on the road; at least not quite yet. So, she was feeling pretty lax, and content to file in alongside the rest of the pack.
As Ettie eyed the map alongside Tetsu though, the young boy would explain the ins and outs of interpreting what all the drawings and symbols on the map were - to which Ettie nodded, understanding. "That sounds good!" She'd mention, adding "I don't see any reason to rush, if you think the weather will stay good. I sorta wanna see if Cassie can get plenty of time outside, too!"
However, amidst the conversing, something would eventually catch the pack's attention; namely, Leon and Aster both raising their heads and glancing off, down the road. <... Someone's coming.> Aster stated in a half-growl, turning around to face Josh and his group, as they came into view; coming up the road. It was clear and easy to see that Aster was agitated at the presence of a trainer with such a large entourage, but Ettie was quick to reassure the Absol; smiling softly as she spoke. "It's okay, Aster. I'm sure they're friends!"
<Are they..?> Leon would skeptically respond, sidling closer to the pack.
With that in mind, Ettie would glance over to Josh and co, and wave an arm widely - calling "Helloooooo!" with a bright smile. Cassie, from her perch on Leon's back, would bwark a <Hello!> to them as well, as she waved a flipper.

The four race-ready Eeveelutions got up to speed quickly, trying to outpace each other before the trail started to rise at a rate that would make racing hazardous. With Blinky's claws still recovering, he couldn't afford to have the Jolteon just blast forward at full speed. They weren't running slowly by any stretch; it was just not quite the speed Josh was used to. "You're doing great, Blinky - can't wait to see your new claws in action!" While she did have synthetic ones, they wouldn't hold up to the violent pressures a racing Pokémon put on natural claws that would take time to grow back. At the base of the Whitecaps, Josh heard a young, long-haired girl call out to her from the distance. He waved back and called out, "Yo!" to her, pulling on Blinky's reins to slow down. Even with the synthetic claws, there was a marked improvement in her traction, now able to somewhat brake rather than coast on her speed and let friction do the rest of the work. It wasn't until all four of the great Eeveelutions had assembled together in front of the girl that Josh noticed a second trainer around the corner, this one quite...well, buff. "Nice Pokémon you two have!" he greeted both of them, Inky on edge thanks to Aster's glare. --- Ettie Tetsu Asterite NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Blinky Jolteon 17 3 Good Bladestorm Skarmory 15 3 Good Twilight Absol 19 3 Good Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good{WC: 223} {PC: 2}

"Just in case, shall we buy some extra?" Tetsu suggested. He won't ever suggest for her to toss away thsi clothes, knowing she have tons of memories about it... But at the same time he want her to have different kind of clothing too! "I think I want to have a backup clothes too considering we'll be living in wilderness. Gonna need something thicker at times... Oh and I think I'd like to buy some swimming trunks too... I wonder if Slate City sells any?"
Plenty time outside for Cassie huh? Riku was the first to answer to that <Later, stay a bit near the creek. Let her dip>. Tetsu doesn't need any explanation for that, and gently scritched Riku's chest. "Sounds like a good idea isn't it, pal? Anything you're looking forward to?"
<Friendly spar> he answered while whining slightly in enjoyment from the scritches. <Also new friends.>
"Hmmm, lemme guess... Fight?" a nod "and then... uuuuuhhh" Riku pointed at him, then Tetsu chuckled. "Ah, friends huh? Yeah I want new friends too."
Sphalerite at first was alert, the side of his mouth began to blaze with purple flame. But upon seeing that the newcomer isn't hostile, the Charmeleon decided to cut it out and instead waved. Riku however still did not drop his guard that easily. At least he didn't see any hostility in their aura though, so he doesn't mind them approaching.
<Aura not dark. Not hostile,> Riku informed Aster and Leon. <If hostile, I can see>.
"Howdy!" Tetsu returned the greeting. "Great looking entourages you have there! Although admittedly this is the first time I saw such huge Eeveelutions... They're really huge aren't they!"
Rutile attempted to sniff on the Pokemons from far away. <...Smoky, sparkly, glittery, icy>

As Tetsu suggested buying extra clothes, Ettie would quietly nod along in agreement - smiling - although... The mention of swimming trunks would make her blink a little, tilting her head quizzically. "Swimming trunks?" She'd ask, seeming not entirely sure of what they were, besides probably being related to swimming.
At Riku's suggestion of hanging around the creek to let Cassie swim, however, the Popplio would agree with a cheery clap of her flippers. <Sounds good!> She'd bwark in agreement, a bright smile on the seal pokemon's face. Ettie, too, couldn't help but smile and chuckle - chirping to Cassie "Let's all swim together, when we get there, then!" As Anne seemed to make a face at the idea of having to get wet though, Ettie would sheepishly giggle; correcting herself "Well, maybe not everyone, eheh..!"
With Josh's approach though, it was clear that some of Ettie's pack was a bit reluctant at this sudden stranger. Aster and Leon were the biggest examples in this; even as Riku stated that Josh wasn't hostile, Aster was quick to retort <Not hostile when see it.> with an agitated rumble in his throat. He knew too well, how scheming some humans could be. Leon, meanwhile, would simply quietly huddle behind Aster - finding comfort in his brother's presence. Anne, meanwhile, simply remained at Ettie's side - as vigilant as ever - whilst Scarlet remained silent at Ettie's hip, staring at Josh and his pokemon rather neutrally.
That being said though, Cassie was still plenty friendly; the Popplio hopping down from Leon's back to approach and investigate Josh's entourage of pokemon. Ettie, too, was plenty friendly; smiling brightly as she slid down from Aster's back to properly approach the new pokemon. "You have cool pokemon, too!" She'd respond to Josh's compliment, smiling brightly in looking the different Eeveelutions over. Much like Tetsu said, they were much bigger than what Ettie was used to!
However, she would quickly realize that she should likely get introductions out of the way, and get to know these new folks! "What're your names, friends?" She'd ask both Josh and the pokemon directly; wondering if she would be able to understand them or not. (And if not, well, Anne was still there to translate!) "My name is Ettie; and this all is my pack!" She'd introduce herself, before gesturing to her pokemon with a wide sweep of her arm. "I'm sorry if they're a bit shy - a lot of them are wary about strangers. Cassie seems happy to meet everyone, though!"
<Yep!> The Popplio would confirm with a bwark and a wave of her flipper. Friends were always nice, after all!

Inky let the ice crystals at the end of his hair relax once it was evident the Absol wasn't hostile. He still wasn't particularly sociable, keeping to himself while the other three, particularly Blinky, were chatting up a storm with Tetsu's and Ettie's Pokémon. "I couldn't afford Pokémon like these four back home, that's for certain!" Josh replied. "I'm raising all four of them to be racing Pokémon - can't wait for the season to start in the spring. These four are Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde - the Flareon is a bit of an oddball compared to the other three." Clyde shot a deadpan glare at her trainer; Blinky and Pinky couldn't help but chuckle. "Kind of," he awkwardly added. The four Pokémon stepped away from Tetsu, Josh turning his attention toward Ettie. "Thanks, Ettie!" His four Pokémon introduced themselves to the Pokémon speaker, one by one, though Inky was less than cheerful about it, wanting to get to Slate City and beyond as quickly as possible. Blinky went on to explain how much she had to hold back because of her claw injury several weeks ago. "Understandable; some of my Pokémon have the opposite problem. They all have personalities, just like us!"
Blinky was content to walk alongside the two travelers, the large number of Pokémon being careful not to cause a complete blockade of the road. "Oh, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm so bad at that. I'm Josh. Josh Devlin. You might recognize my voice if you've ever watched any local sports. I've done commentary for some local Pokémon races before, and want to compete in this season myself. These four are Pokémon that were bred for racing - particularly the Jolteon I'm on right now."<Can't wait until my claws grow back; then no one can stop us!> Blinky added, her barks higher-pitched than normal conversation. "I also take on the Gym Challenge in the off-season," Josh continued. "All my Pokémon are raised with racing in mind first, battles second. As much as I enjoy battles, I find races are so much more engaging for the rider than battles are for the trainer." He paused for a moment as to not get carried away. "But enough about me," he stopped himself. "It's great to meet you both, Ettie and...I think I missed your name," he gestured toward Tetsu. "If you're headed for Slate, mind if we tag along? "Oh that, it's something that humans in the city wears to go swim. Thing is it's dangerous to swim just in their normal clothes and it's bad to swim naked... so swimsuits are made, you see? The swimsuit is often tight to your skin, so it makes it easier for you to swim, but offer protection compared being naked," Tetsu explained. "So it's the best of both world simply speaking! Only use it when you're going to swim though. People gonna look at you funny if you walk around in swimsuit."
Heheh, swimming together sounds nice. "It might be a bit chilly, but I think it'll be fun to also get some fishes there! Maybe we can have a little barbecue~"
<Food, nice> Riku nodded in approval, smacking his mouth.
<Might not wanna go swim,> Sphalerite commented, a bit sheepishly <no like wet.>
As expected, Aster doesn't believe him huh. Riku relented at that. <Seeing is believing,> was all he said after that.
"Huh, that's the first time I heard someone name their Eeveelutions based on Pac-Man ghosts," Tetsu chuckled in amusement. "I'm not too big on the racing just yet. Only saw a bit and pieces on the TV, thought it was neat... I'm kinda planning to enter junior division one of these days. Got a Pokemon that wouuuld probably be suitable for those!" Tetsu commented.
"Oh right, my bad. Introduction, right? Name's Tetsu. Tetsu Asterite. Just your normal interested-in-so-many-things 14 years old. Well, I don't really mind you tagging along, but we're not really looking for a fast run toward Slate. We're just going to travel up while making stops here and there, enjoying the nature, you know? As Tetsu explained the point to swimming trunks, Ettie would tilt her head and hum a bit, nodding in response. "Should I get swimming trunks too, then?" She'd ask with a curious hue - figuring that if it was safer to swim with them on, that she might as well get herself a pair of swimming trunks instead! "That way, I can swim with everyone lots and lots!"
The mention of fish, and a barbecue, would certainly get Cassie's attention; the little popplio clapping her flippers with a bwark of approval! <I help find fish!> She'd declare, to which Ettie laughed and reached over to pat the other's head. "We can all fish together, and get lots and lots to eat!"
<Fish sounds good...> Leon would murmur thoughtfully; it certainly seemed like a nice change of pace from their usual meals. It was delicious, though he found them hard to catch, so this would also be quite the treat for the two brothers. Prince would nod in agreement - thoughtfully murmuring <Could help cook,>
As Sphalerite expressed his distaste for water though, Anne would let out a sigh and nod - responding <You, me, both.> in agreement.
With Josh's presence though, Ettie would listen in curiously as the older trainer mentioned that the foursome were meant to be racing pokemon; something that would make her perk up a little bit. "Ooohh... I've heard of people racing pokemon!" She'd chirp, a certain curious hue to her expression, as she glanced over to Tetsu. "Maybe we could try racing pokemon together sometime, Tetsu?"
Who would be fast enough to race, she wondered? She was sure Anne would be plenty fast when she evolved, especially given how fast Mama tended to be. Aster and Leon, too, were both pretty quick on their feet!
As the Eeveelutions introduced themselves though, Ettie nodded to them and smiled; even in the face of Inky's more reserved nature. "It's nice to meet you all!" She'd respond cheerily; although as Blinky mentioned her claw injury, Ettie would frown gently in visible sympathy. "Aw... Are your claws healing okay, Blinky?" She'd ask the Jolteon, crouching down to examine her claws and see if they were healing properly. "I hope they heal up soon; not having your claws to run around and protect yourself with must not be fun..."
<Sound uncomfortable to run without, too.> Anne would remark briefly, to which Ettie nodded in agreement. "Yeah..."
Once Josh introduced himself proper though, Ettie would nod and smile - responding "It's okay; and it's nice to meet you, Josh!" She hadn't watched any sports before, admittedly - given that her brushes with civilized concepts were still pretty limited. But as he mentioned that the four pokemon were bred for racing, she'd hum curiously and tilt her head. "So they're... More adapted to racing?" She'd ask, trying to frame the concept in a fashion that she better understood.
<I cheer you on!> Cassie would respond to Blinky's comment in a cheery bwark, smiling warmly as she moved alongside the group.
Josh's remark about how his team could get the group to Slate 'a lot faster', though, seemed to catch Aster's attention. Scoffing, the huge Absol would raise his head in a confident fashion, questioning <Faster than an Alpha?> in retort. Though these pokemon may have been bred for racing, Aster highly doubted they were made for the terrain that he and Leon both grew up in; and he didn't become an Alpha of his former pack by just lazing around in a cushy lifestyle!
Ettie couldn't help but giggle at this; smiling sheepishly to the others. "I think Aster took that as a challenge," She'd comment, moving over to get back up on the Absol's back. When Leon would nod in response to Riku's question though, and Aster seemed ready to bolt on ahead into an impromptu race at a moment's notice, the young girl giggled again - adding "I think everyone's fine with you guys coming along, too!"

Josh couldn't help but laugh with Tetsu. "What's funny is I've never been good at that game, or with names. It's one of the reasons I've had to be careful about how many Pokémon I catch. That and money. Four months is a long off-season!" His smile grew when he heard the young man had an interest in the races. "Perhaps I could show you the ropes in a couple months, when it's warm enough? The season runs from April to November, and I don't do much of the preseason stuff."
Ettie appeared to be somewhat interested in amateur races too, and she had a lot of Pokémon commonly used by mid-tier racers; even an Absol. Josh had one on his team for that reason. When asked about her claws, Blinky would extend them. They were healing well; Josh leaned around the Jolteon's head to get a look. They looked a bit thicker than they were before. Perhaps the breeder that sold Blinky to him used methods other than natural genetics to overspecialize the claws for dead sprints. He shuddered for a bit, trying to imagine what the poor Pokémopn went through. "I'm going to need to practice a lot with her in the off-season; the new claws are going to change her timing for everything. She won't be quite as fast as before, but she'll be able to use them to turn a lot better."Josh looked rather bewildered when he heard that Tetsu was but a young teen. Sure, he towered over both of them, but he didn't put the musclehead on such an early age! "You look a lot older than you say you are - I put you on at least twenty! Great to meet you though, Tetsu." The mountain trail had to look beautiful this time of year, despite it being cold. "I don't mind it, either, and I'm sure Blinky would appreciate the slower pace while she's still healing, too.""I've wanted to make a team that can both race well and battle well," Josh continued, turning his attention back to Ettie when asked about his racing-adapted team. "Blinky in particular was bred specifically for it." When Ettie explained Aster was looking for a challenge, Josh couldn't help but chuckle. "Blinky would lose to even your average Absol in terrain like this. I have an Absol of my own, though!" With that, he recalled Inky and Pinky to make room for the large, stoic Absol. Just as Tetsu was smiling from his previous explanation, his smile turned into a nervous grin. Mental note to himself: Tell Ettie about human modesty later at private. He'd rather not talk about this at length where someone having a picnic might be able to hear, so he would say "I think there are different models to choose, Ettie. I'm sure we'll find you something comfortable. The most comfortable for me is the swimming trunks. The suit version often a bit too tight on my chest and arms... so I don't really like them."
<Your chest too thick> Riku retorted.
"Oh, looks like everyone is in agreement for the picnic then?" Tetsu grinned "I think it'll be a good way to, you know, train my accuracy while at it!"
So there are four months between seasons. "That's kind of long. I wonder if normal Pokemon racer could stay afloat during that sort of downtime... Personally I don't think I could if I only focused on Pokemon Racing, so I'm glad I could provide for my Pokemons in many ways."
Being able to stay in the forest and let his Pokemon hunts would definitely impacted positively to the amount of money needed to feed them all. In case they need something extra, he guess he could just run and do some errands in the city, like part time working or something. Also it looks like Ettie wanted to join the junior division too? "Heh heh, well don't that sounds fun? Sphalerite, you might be up against Aster or Pierre then!" he called out to the Charmeleon, who send a well meant smile toward the Absol.
<Will not disappoint. I fast> he would comment.
"Then again I kinda want to show off a bit of Tourmaline, my Beedrill. Lady got crazy speed with Tailwind. Or maybe if later my stronger Pokemons got cleared, I guess I can also call out my Arcanine. Well we'll just see I guess! Any offroad tracks?" Tetsu asked.
Josh remarks about the claws made Tetsu recite someting "This reminds me of my brother somehow. He's... not as interested in being strong as I am, but he always have a strange mantra. "A weight of a Honedge is generally about 2 kilograms, but that's approximation. Mine is exactly 2.32 kilograms. Even if it's off by two decimals, it would alter my swing speed and my movement. If it's off by one decimal then i'll be risking a slip in reaction by a fraction of seconds. It wouldn't feel right and would make it all the more awkward, and it would risk me my winning chance." I guess this mantra more or less apply here."
Upon being called twenty, Tetsu pouted. "I'm not that old! Plus if I'm twenty then I'd be some kind of fantasy dwarf or something! Pretty sure that my face is still young looking too! Right, Ettie? My face is still young right?"
<Not sure if she would know> Riku muttered under his breath.
Man what's with the Absol team? Made him jealous of being excluded. "I guess I'll eventually get an Absol too..." he muttered under his breath. "Well anyway, let's ride! Ready to go again, Sphalerite?"
The Charmeleon let a spirited roar as an affirmation

Ettie, admittedly, didn't entirely understand all this talk about seasons and whatnot. The only seasons she understood were the passing seasons of spring, summer, and the like; and the change of the weather that came with it. What was this off-season they were talking about referring to? Was it too hot and exhausting to run during summer? Too cold and slippery to run during winter? Too rainy and wet to run during fall? Any of the four seasons had different reasons that Ettie could see someone not wanting to do a race then...
Her focus, honestly, was a bit more on the pokemon themselves - and as Blinky showed her her claws, Ettie was very gentle and carefully as she took hold of one of the Jolteon's paws to look it over. Admittedly, the claws were less canine and more feline - and so she didn't feel 100% qualified to judge whether they were healing okay - but she could, at least, see that there were no signs of scarring or infection. "They look to be healing okay, I think!" Ettie would eventually chirp with a warm smile; reaching up to pat Blinky's head.
(There might've been a risk of getting stung by static, in petting a Jolteon. However, given that she handled Duchess on a regular basis, she wasn't afraid of any potential static shocks if she was honest!)
As Tetsu began talking about the importance of a Honedge's own weight though, Ettie tilted her head a bit - curious, although her mind also getting somewhat sidetracked from the exact point that the young man was trying to make. If an average Honedge was 2 kilograms though, she couldn't help but wonder... "... How much do you weigh, Scarlet?" She'd ask the Honedge at her hip. The sword pokemon, in response, was silent as per usual - Ettie had a hard time exactly gauging what Scarlet was thinking, to be honest!
<Probably lighter.> Is all Anne would supply as a guess - given the fact that Scarlet was smaller than most typical Honedge.
With Josh mentioning that he had thought that Tetsu was 20, though - and Tetsu understandably protesting at that - Ettie would blink a bit, her expression appearing quizzical and almost clueless. "Uhm... Yeah! You're smaller, so you're probably younger, like me!" She'd eventually respond with a smile. With Josh being much taller than either of them, Ettie figured that Josh would be the older one out of the lot of them! Especially since she didn't exactly have a perfect grasp on the concept of years and age, beyond in the passing of the seasons and how one's own body grew as they got older.
(Granted, she also understood that some people - and pokemon - were just naturally larger or smaller than average; but when she only had size to go off of, figuring that Josh was older than them was a pretty educated guess in her opinion!)
As Josh sent out Twilight though, Ettie's eyes would light up curiously - smiling brightly. "She's pretty big!" She'd chirp in observation, as she looked Josh's Absol over - though she certainly wasn't as big as Aster, Twilight was definitely bigger than Leon! Aster seemed curious about this new Absol as well, his eyes sharp and gauging as he looked Twilight up and down; though he would remain silent, seemingly keeping his thoughts to himself. Instead, Ettie would further comment on Twilight - asking "Where'd you meet her?"
Instead, with Tetsu's call for them to ride, and Sphalerite's excited roar, Cassie would bwark and clap her flippers in similar excitement as she situated herself on Leon's back. A certain energy was thrumming amongst the pack, and even Prince couldn't help but gaze about at everyone with interest. How was this impromptu little race going to go?
Either way, it certainly seemed like Aster wasn't going to wait too much longer. <Catch up if can,> is all he'd growl, before he was off; running along the road, with Leon and Anne both following at his heels! All the while, Ettie whooped with excitement, enjoying the feel of the wind through her hair! It almost made her wish that she could run this fast, alongside her pack; but it was safe to say that this was just as good in the meantime!
Anne the Rockruff - Level 16 - 3/3 Energy Aster the Absol - Level 20 - 3/3 Energy Leon the Absol - Level 15 - 3/3 Energy Prince the Fennekin - Level 15 - 3/3 Energy Cassie the Popplio - Level 10 - 3/3 Energy (Holding Lucky Egg) Scarlet the Honedge - Level 14 - 3/3 Energy

"The four-month off-season is mostly due to weather," Josh explained when Tetsu chimed in about how long the wait was. "In most regions of the world, it's too cold this time of year. Racing in weather like this is asking for frostbite!" While it was possible, and diehards wore full-body suits when practicing in the nippiest months, it also put the Pokémon at risk of frostbite. "That's why I do the Gym Challenge and odd jobs during the winter. Even with a sponsor, you have to perform really well to make a career out of racing...or any professional sports, really."Blinky laughed when Ettie gently pat her head; the two seemed to be getting along so well that he dismounted the happy Eeveelution and switched to Twilight, the only response she gave being a tilt and nod of the head. Even in Pokémon speech, she remained silent. "Don't mind her; she's a quiet one. She doesn't like tons of attention. Blinky, on the other hand, loved the affection, thanking Ettie for her attention and doing her best to hold her static back...though she couldn't hold it all back. "Be careful!" Josh spoke up when he heard the sound of sparks coming from the Jolteon's head. Twilight seemed to like Aster's approach to meeting up as the two locked gazes; she kept her introduction brief and to the point. "From a local breeder," Josh answered. "They're popular among racers just turning pro. Cost me a hefty amount of coin, she did, though worth every Pen. Just don't tease her or overly humor her; she doesn't like jokes." Before too much longer, Aster dashed northwest along the mountain trail. When Twilight crouched and flexed her legs, Josh knew the competitive Absol was going to give chase; he flipped his helmet visor down and leaned low on the dark-type. While the visor would give him some protection, it wouldn't be perfect. He recalled the rest of his Pokémon before gently kicking at the horned Pokémon's sides, her claws effortlessly digging into the rock below and aiding in both her acceleration and her traction. --- Tetsu Asterite Ettie NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Blinky Jolteon 17 3 Good Bladestorm Skarmory 15 3 Good Twilight Absol 19 3 Good Inky Glaceon 16 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 18 3 Good Clyde Flareon 15 3 Good{WC: 356} {PC: 5}
