Though the townsfolk of Russetton praised Armand for being the hero of Russetton, Josh was just as much of a hero for driving a sinister and vicious Charmeleon out of a devastated neighborhood. He wasn't just satisfied with driving the raging lizard away. He was out to finish the job. If he didn't, who knows how many more lives that behemoth of a fire-type would ruin, let alone actually end? His goal was simple: remove that Charmeleon from the environment, preferably by catching it for himself.
Rather than let all his Pokémon out to run, Josh wanted to survey the Badlands as quickly as possible for the giant Charmeleon's den. For a specimen of that notoriety, finding it couldn't be too terribly difficult, could it? He released Bladestorm, the Skarmory excited to go on a hunt, even if it was hunting a fire Pokémon. The racer donned his helmet and flipped the visor down before mounting up, guiding the bird into gaining altitude as quickly as possible without stalling out. When they were a good distance above Russetton, Josh commanded his Pokémon to dive.
Bladestorm let out a loud screech, stooping and picking up a great deal of speed. The wind roared past Josh and would have deafened him if he wasn't wearing his helmet. The racer guided the Skarmory to level off around ten to fifteen feet off the ground, weaving around rock formations during their high speed glide. He couldn't help but let out a blissful cry as he rode far faster than it was legal to drive on the highway, his eyes shifting back and forth for signs of his quarry's passage.

Clause: From this point on, you will make <roll> on the end of your posts to determine outcome of your tracking. High enough of rolls will affect positively to your search. Low rolls means there will be obstacles on the way. Perhaps you will even get something special from the discovery if you do well enough and found it fast enough. Goodluck!
While Josh thought that finding the Charmeleon of that size would be easy, he have forgotten several points, or perhaps it didn't pop in his mind: There are more than just Huge Charmeleon in this area. There are also lots of huge sized Pokemons (compared to their species that is). What could have caused this? It's seem that the size difference is very prominent in this area. But either way... he would then found three footprints. One leads to a nearly dried river downhill... another leads to some plateau labyrinth, and finally the last one leads to cavern. Would he like to take a moment to examine it, or would he like to just follow his instinct, and hope that he's right?
For better or worse, the Charmeleon must be very tired. There are chance that it's still recuperating, and hopefully Josh can catch up to it easier.

Josh was having a great time aboard Bladestorm, weaving around boulders, small mesas, and other rock formations. The Skarmory achieved such speed that her wing blades were constantly vibrating, creating a tinny sound all around them. After dodging two more rock formations, she let out a metallic squawk, then started gaining height and circling back. "What's up, Bladestorm?" Josh asked, letting go of the reins as to relinquish control to the metal bird. She slowly tilted her frame upward to kill her speed, then gently circled back down and let Josh off. "Wow, you have a good eye!" he said, gently patting the bird's neck.
There were three different sets of tracks. One led to a dried river, probably an offshoot of the Roch River some thousands of years ago; one led to a natural labyrinth, located on the plateau to the south of the Badlands proper; and finally, one led to a rather large-mouthed cavern. Charmeleon had pretty distinct footprints, though; he pulled his phone out and pulled up an image of the fire-type's pawprint in his Pokédex app, looking for a match in any of the three.

Random Event Happened!
As you pulled your phone, something seem to be blocking the server's connection to your phone. Perhaps it was because it's a wild area, or perhaps it's because there are something else. You managed to access the page, and check the footprint... But only for three seconds before a huge "ERROR, UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE SERVER" appeared on your screen. In that three seconds, you managed to exclude the one heading to the river. It was not one of those of your target. This means the direction was either the one heading toward the cave, or one heading to the maze. To which direction would you choose your course of action?
However, with the connection to the server a bit unstable, there most likely only some moments where you could change your party member with the ones in the PC. A chance to change the party will be outlined with Green signal just like this. Prepare yourself accordingly! Perhaps this might be the most challenging journey yet!

Just as he had finished pulling up Charmeleon's Pokédex entry on his phone, it started going haywire, with a giant error message. At first he expected it to be from having no service this far away from town, but that was not the case. He had never seen this type of error message before - perhaps some natural feature deep in the Badlands was jamming his phone signal somehow? He thought about turning around for a few seconds before shaking his head. He had taken on the Charmeleon before and won. Plus, he was much better prepared for it this time, what with there being two water-types on his squad now.
"Nothing worthwhile is handed to you," Josh thought aloud. "If it's worthwhile, it's worth going out of your way to get." With that, he swapped out Bladestorm for Twilight; while the Absol wouldn't be blistering fast, her gallop would be fast enough that she would reach the maze on the plateau in time. It seemed better than a cave, where he would be completely blind; in the outdoor maze, he figured that Bladestorm would be able to fly over the natural labyrinth and guide him to its exit.

Great Plateau Maze Asteriadne
The luck wasn't on your side. As you get closer to the plateau maze, you will see a brewing sandstorm has enveloped the plateau. While it won't quite buffet you as bad as when you're in a battle, this would surely disrupt the flying Pokemon's flight unless they're rock, steel or ground type while at it. A steel type like Bladestorm are unaffected, but her vision on the other hand? That might be affected. She would do well to not get lost of Josh and Twilight.
On the other hand, the ground team will now unable to see Bladestorm clearly. The ground level's sandstorm is even worse than the higher level for some reason... What they can see however, are some wild Pokemons moving about, minding their own business. Unhindered by the storm are Onix and Geodudes. One or two Pawniards also can be seen guarding entryway that looked like a small den. They crossed their arms, ready to attack any intruders if so they dared.
Perhaps this might be the right time to remind you that in this sort of weather, the footmarks slowly get filled by sands. It might be prudent for you to hurry up and ignore possible Pokemon battles unless it's necessary. As side note: While in this sandstorm, your survival skill can now be added to your rolls to skew the result toward a more favorable outcome.
Currently, the footprints are heading to the north, where there might be a huge clearing...

Oh, lovely. Things just went from bad to worse. Good thing Josh didn't lift his helmet visor - otherwise he probably wouldn't have been able to see. Twilight was also adept to weather like this, thanks to where Absol naturally roamed. While Bladestorm didn't really care about the sand bouncing off her body, she wouldn't be able to see Josh well, even with her avian eyesight. Josh, on the other hand, definitely wouldn't be able to see Bladestorm. He tilted his head toward the sky and shouted, "Abort! Abort!" Dejected, the Skarmory slowly descended within range of being recalled, which her trainer would do.
The more he thought about it on the way to the plateau, the more Josh realized the sandstorm would make continuing to track the Charmeleon increasingly difficult the longer the hunt went. Realizing he was on borrowed time, he instructed Twilight to follow the Charmeleon's trail and only the trail. If the trail happened to lead him past angry Pokémon, it was probably faster to fight them than find a way around them.

A Random Event Occured!
Your attempt at tracking the Charmeleon seem to be at a 50/50. You're fast enough to reach a point where you can see the footprints are a lot fresher than before. Due to your lack of higher than beginner survival skill however, you're unable to find anything more noteworthy about this footprint... except there were blood drips. Most likely from battling.
However, this point perhaps does not interest you as much as the next information: As you goes, even if the footprints are fresher compared to those on the entrance, they seem to be covered faster... It's as if whatever ahead might be causing this sandstorm. Is it artificial? Or is it a nature's phenomenon? You can't really tell much from here... but ahead, you can see several red colored crystals jutting out from dying trees... Even in the sandstorm, their crimson hue shines like beacon, pulsating slightly... Yet, there are no Pokemon silhouette on sight, your Pokemons would notice.
What could this mean?

Blood dripping along the trail did not surprise Josh whatsoever; he had previous experience with this Pokémon. It was rather violent, lashing out with both claw and flame in his battle with it to cave a neighborhood from being burned away. A violent skirmish was almost certainly inevitable when they met. He wondered what Twilight was thinking; after all, it was known that some Absol had the intelligence to communicate with their trainers telepathically. Twilight was not quite at that level of mastery yet, but he would not be surprised if it happened soon.
The dark-type wasn't slowing down any time soon; Josh could only get a glimpse of red crystals in trees, their dead branches wrapping around them. While he wanted to briefly investigate, since the deeper footprints meant he was catching up with his quarry and gave him a bit of spare time, Twilight made that decision for him; they were going to catch up with that fire-type, and not waste any time in doing so.

Random Event Happened!
While you decided to ignore the crystals, you soon feel something strange First, the temperature is rising. It was supposed to be winter now, and the badland is not an exception to that rule. The air shouldn't be hot. It should be cool at least. And yet, you feel right here, is like a hot, summer blaze. The air feels dry with no humidity at all. It feels... odd, as if something is causing a stir...
Second, your Pokemon would be the one who notices it. They felt... oddly irritable. Those with fiercer type of personality would feel as if they wanted to lash out while the calmer one felt a building discontent inside of them the farther they go to the center. They felt as if something inside of them is rebelling. Perhaps it was instinct, perhaps it was something else... But there are something that feels wrong.
Third, this is also one that noticed by your Pokemon, but they felt a strange surge of alien power that seem to seeps inside of them. It was rejected, perhaps from the interference of the Pokeballs. But the sensation feels like something about to crawls inside of them, yet it got repelled. This sensation feels like a creeping, coarse, slithery thing... Yes, as if a rope is alive, and slithers on their limb. That how it feels, before it got rejected.
Your luck however seems to turn around as you heard an unmistakable cry of Charmeleon. You're close, but how close are you now? Only your luck will tell.

Josh knew the Badlands were warmer than the rest of Ageos, particularly in the winter. But nothing like this! He had to stop to take off his coat and put it away completely...almost able to feel the sweat rapidly evaporating from his body afterward. At least it was extremely dry - he had been in Azalea Town back in Johto during a hot and humid summer; the lack of humidity made a real difference.
As he rounded a corner, Josh also noticed his mount's footfalls becoming more deliberate. "You okay, Twilight?" Josh asked. He didn't get a reply other than more rough footsteps as they continued to follow the trail. He did recall that Charmeleon had the capability to raise the air temperature around it substantially by waving its tail. He experienced that Heat Wave attack for himself in the middle of battle.

The Absol let out a loud cry, tensed her legs, then bucked Josh with all her might. All it took was one strong thrust to send the rider flying out of the saddle and over his mount's head, rolling forward to a nearby intersection. Thankfully the ground was still somewhat soft. That would have been a hard impact otherwise! "Owwww..." he groaned, before asking his dark-type companion, "What's the big idea?!" As if it were feral, the Pokémon raised her claws as though she were about to pounce. Shaking his head, he recalled the Absol and switched her out for the much more calm Jolteon, Blinky. As he mounted up, he noticed the electric fox's usual cheer was gone; she, too, was tense...almost uncomfortable looking. Either way, with how hot it was, the two pressed on; they had to be close.

At last, Josh had cornered the Charmeleon in what he guessed was the center of the labyrinth. There was plenty of room to maneuver, which at least let him capitalize on his speed advantage. The red lizard that towered over him was more livid than any wild Pokémon he had ever seen in his life. Its eyes were white-and-red instead of white-and-black, and let out an unearthly roar. Blinky sat down to let Josh dismount, then extended her claws. "You too? What's gotten into you?" he asked after hopping off his electric Pokémon.
Completely contrary to her personality, she was looking for a fight with the Charmeleon. It wasn't like they were going to get a fight, anyway. He released Twilight alongside the Jolteon to help with the battle. "Something isn't right here. You two hold down the fort while I figure out what's going on, okay?"
With that, Josh and the rest of his team hastily backtracked to where the crystals were. This way, he could get a closer look at them, as much as walking all the way up to the trees holding them, if he must. Was this the reason why it was boiling hot here in the dead of winter?

You Decided to Examine...
What you feel the first time was it. was. hot. It was so on your face hot. It's like facing your room heater in hot summer day. However, being this close, you can feel something primal out of it. It's as if whatever this crystal do, it have power of bringing the more wild personality in Pokemons out. Being this close, even you had this feeling of your more primal emotions getting stirred. Thankfully, it's seem much less effective on human compared to Pokemon, or otherwise you would be apeshit right now... In that case, it's also very great that you decided to ignore it while you were on top of your mount. Arceus knows what could happened if you do.
[Turn 6] You may now stop rolling unless you wish to examine anything.

Even after taking his winter layers off, Josh was still sweating like mad. He was going to need to sit in front of a fire-type Pokémon when this place cooled off, or he would be so sick from being drenched in sweat and going out in the cold. Not only was he warm physically, but his thoughts were starting to become hot, as well.
Forgetting about his Pokémon locking horns with the Charmeleon for the time being, an unearthly urge of wanton destruction flowed through his mind. Holding Bladestorm's Poké Ball in hand, he pressed the button to release the avian tyrant before the crystal-filled tree. "Just shred that %$#&#*% thing. Do what you have to to get it out of my #&^%^$# sight." Bladestorm's emotions, likewise, boiled to a tipping point, sparing no strength in slicing and dicing at the small tree and its crystals with every metal weapon she had. Josh stepped back, ready to recall her at a moment's notice in case she turned on him in uncontrollable rage.
