Ever since he heard about the attack, Armand grew worried about the residents there. He would have to ignore it and continue his daily life in Cerise City due to how dangerous the badlands were right now. However, his curiosity and concerns got the best out of him and decided to help out Russetton's police with their Skarmory problem. With that, he prepared his Pokemon and expendables and hopped onto a helicopter that would direct him to his destination. Of course, he was surprised at a certain individual joining with him on the helicopter ride.
Once he arrived there, he was met with distressed residents being taken care of by field medics and nurses tending to their injured Pokemon. He also saw rubble and damages around the town, to which he reacted with horror and anger. While this was not the work of some poacher or a criminal, he was still appalled by all of this. Regardless, he took a deep breath and went to the police station to send in his application and asked for Tamara Jenny's whereabouts. As he waited, he turned to his friend who accompanied him.
"Are you sure you want to join in this operation?" He asked. "I'm a bit concerned with your Pokemon, especially with your mount Pokemon."

"I'll be fine," Josh confidently answered, smiling toward some of his newly-gathered companions inside their Poké Balls. With Inky, Pinky, and Clyde clearing customs now, Josh had a well-balanced team capable of taking on just about anything. "People don't realize that Pokémon trainers have a civic duty to help out in situations like this, where the police force is overwhelmed. Being a Trainer isn't always about fun and glory, you know?" While he was, of course, somewhat concerned for his own safety, most terrible situations could be avoided simply by knowing not to get in over his own head. Josh couldn't help but chuckle when Armand expressed concerns about his mount Pokémon. "I brought Blinky here just for added mobility. She doesn't fight; that's what my other Pokémon are for. 'He who runs away lives to right another day,' as the saying goes." While he wasn't fully dressed for races, Josh was wearing his lightning-streaked, purple-and-yellow helmet; he was going to need as much protection as he could get, after all. " Don't worry. I know I'm no knight in shining armor; I had maybe one or two martial arts classes when I was young. Decided it wasn't for me. And even if I could fight for myself...not against something like this." A clip of one of the recent Pokémon attacks was playing on a nearby monitor. "Just look at the size of that thing!" he pointed. --- r9j5S0YJArmand Leclair NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Bladestorm Skarmory 10 3 Good Twilight Absol 10 3 Good Blinky Jolteon 7 3 Good Inky Glaceon 8 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 8 3 Good Clyde Flareon 12 3 Good{WC: 242} {PC: 1} {Pt: 86/200}

Josh Devlin Armand Leclair A random event has occurred!The pilot lead the trainers to a rendezvous point just south of Russetton's city limits, a squad of tacked-up Arcanine, Boltund, and Stoutland standing near her in a line formation. There were several gaps in the formation, likely due to others having recently left for the wilds to the south. A young adult female, dressed in a blue-and-white police uniform, seemed to be relieved to see more people answering the police department's call to action. "Josh and Armand, I presume? Glad to meet you. I'm Officer Tamara Jenny with field ops. We can begin the briefing now. As you know, Russetton has been under attack from giant Pokémon, and we simply don't have the staff to both defend the city and drive these Pokémon away. Supposedly they're all taking orders from a Skarmory whose nesting ground was forced to be relocated when Russetton expanded southward. It's riled up some other wild Pokémon in the process, too. Your mission is go out there and remove the threats of these wild Pokémon by any means necessary. Lethal force is authorized, though I would hope it will not come to that."Tamara paused to collect her thoughts. "You'll know the Pokémon you're going after by how big they are. They're...really big for their kind." She pointed to one of the saddled Boltund, about the size of one of the Arcanine. "Think at least that big. These Pokémon will be able to help search the Badlands for you, but they're not trained for battle. You can use them to get around the Badlands if you don't have a Pokémon you're more comfortable with. Don't push yourselves too hard; if things look bad, retreat. We don't want any more avoidable casualties. That being said, I look forward to the successful completion of your mission."

Josh's gaze meandered about as the officer briefed the two. His eyes stopped shifting at her mention of authorizing "lethal force"; this must have been really serious if she was okay with these wild Pokémon suffering terminal blows. One of the first things taught in Trainers' school was showing Pokémon the importance of nonlethal force in battles. It was one of the biggest reasons many regions, Johto included, limited access to so-called Ultra Pokémon attacks such as Hyper Beam, to trainers with lots of Badges. The Boltund Tamara referred to were about the size of ones typically used for racing. As fun as it would be to dash around atop one, Josh had to decline. "Thanks for the offer, but I have my own team; I'm actually a Pokémon racer, so I know how to get around in the open wilderness like this." As to prove his point, he sent Blinky out from her Poké Ball and mounted up, the restless Jolteon ready and raring to go. When the policewoman mentioned Pokémon even larger than that were out there, Josh couldn't help but daydream, even as Armand was asking questions both of her and his partner. If his friend was paying attention, he might have heard Josh mumbling something about a Litleo big enough to hop onto. _BN4H9w7p_--- Armand Leclair NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Bladestorm Skarmory 10 3 Good Twilight Absol 10 3 Good Blinky Jolteon 7 3 Good Inky Glaceon 8 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 8 3 Good Clyde Flareon 12 3 Good{WC: 222} {PC: 2} {Pt: 149/200}

Josh snapped out of his trance the moment Armand called out to him. "Wha...?" he replied, his eyes shifting across the dry landscape. "Oh, right! They know where to go. "Alright, Blinky, we need to head back toward town!" The young man gently squeezed the Jolteon's sides, making sure the two stayed well within the speed limit. While he loved going fast, there was a time and a place for it, and this wasn't it. Perhaps once they got out into the badlands, he would be able to encourage the electric fox to really let loose. About a block or so up the southeastern residential district, Josh noticed several destroyed homes, residents working together to try to salvage valuables buried in the rubble. He noticed a couple that was particularly dumbfounded from losing their home. Still aboard his Jolteon, he waved for Armand to follow, then approached the two and greeted them. "I'm Josh, and this is Blinky. Behind me is Armand. We've been hired by the Russetton police to aid with disaster relief and try to get to the bottom of the wild Pokémon attacks. If there's anything we can do to help, please ask." Josh Devlin Armand Leclair A random event has occurred!While the Boltund seemed eager to get into the field, Voyant didn't seem particularly eager - Armand could really feel the tension in the Absol's muscles as he trotted alongside the more excited Blinky. It seemed Josh had a lead, though - he was talking to a sobbing couple who explained what was going on. "Unless you can help us apply for regional relief funds, there's nothing you can do," the middle-aged man replied while also trying to comfort his female significant other. "Our home was a total loss," he gestured toward the smoldering remains of his home. "At the crack of dawn this morning, a Charmeleon, and a great big one, too, set our whole neighborhood on fire, and the fire department just couldn't get to us fast enough. We're lucky to have made it out with our lives. We lost ev--" The middle-aged female, presumably the resident's wife, let out a shrill cry of despair, drowning out anything else he had to say. The two headed to the other side of the charred rubble. Just as the couple left, the Boltund following them started barking toward the west side of the residential district.

After following Josh, Armand's eyes widened to see the chaos that unfolded in town. Some buildings were in ruins, residents in bandages with some who were traumatized by it, and domesticated Pokemon who were in the same current state as their owners. Just seeing this made him realize how much damage did these Pokemon do to Russetton. Even if he couldn't hear Voyant's thoughts, he could tell that he wasn't happy at the damages as well. However, if they wanted to proceed with this mission, he might as well endure his mixed emotions and try to question the residents. As they approached a traumatized couple and questioned them, they told them that they saw the large Pokemon in question along with a Charmeleon who set fire in their neighborhood. Even as Armand asked where they last saw them, the wife cried out that drowned out everything they said. As much as he wanted to question them further, he didn't want to add salt to their traumatic wounds. So he thanked them for their cooperation and let them be. "Well, that didn't go nowhere. Now w-" His words were interrupted by Boltunds barking towards their attention. "Oh, boy. I have a bad feeling about this." After saying this, he commanded his Absol to follow them and said, "Come on, let's follow them."ex|QLeGep_ [Score: 187/200] [Quest Count: 4/8]

When the couple left, and quickly at that, to the back side of their property. "Thank you for the information! It helps a lot!" Josh shouted back, Blinky tensing up when she heard about the giant Charmeleon and the Boltund...well, bolting west. He couldn't blame them for not wanting to talk; after all, they had just lost everything they had. Hopefully they had homeowner's insurance; wild Pokémon attacks were usually covered by most policies. "I couldn't imagine the pain they're going through, especially if they've lived there for decades," Josh said to Armand, unable to keep himself from shedding a tear. As Armand commanded Voyant to follow the Boltund, Josh likewise commanded his mount to run alongside the Absol and keep the speedy canines in sight. His heart was racing - given how much smoke there was in the neighborhood, it wouldn't surprise him if the Charmeleon the couple spoke of was close by... --- Armand Leclair NAME SPECIES LV EP STATUS Bladestorm Skarmory 10 3 Good Twilight Absol 10 3 Good Blinky Jolteon 7 3 Good Inky Glaceon 8 3 Good Pinky Sylveon 8 3 Good Clyde Flareon 12 3 Good{WC: 155} {PC: 4}

Armand Leclair Josh Devlin A random event has occurred!The two swift Pokémon mounts followed the Boltund onto a side street leading deeper into the residential district. Another house around the corner had been reduced to cinders, and a large amount of smoke and crackling was coming from the house behind it. The Boltund picked up the pace again, rushing toward the house in case anyone that was living there was having difficulty escaping. If the two were to keep following them, they would see the mastermind behind the arson: a hulking Charmeleon that stood taller that even Josh and Armand were while sitting upright in the saddle. The entire north side of the residence was alight, and what little grass there was had already been burned to cinders. The giant, angry, red lizard turned toward the Boltund, who immediately scattered. That left Josh and Armand in the fire-type's sights. Shooting Josh a death glare, the terrorizing wild's open mouth blazed, letting out a roar as embers dripped out from within its maw. It reached behind its back to grab its long, burning tail and flailed it toward Josh like a whip, releasing a wave of searing heat directly at him and his Jolteon! Worse yet, Armand's search for help was not fruitful. The Boltund were gone; the two trainers were on their own with no backup! The Charmeleon had backup, though, in the form of a pair of Charmander that looked equally threatening together! An alpha Charmeleon appeared! It looks angry!STATS

Josh was right. Even if they could rebuild their homes and there were no casualties, it wasn't enough to heal the wounds from this tragic event. So they needed to find the culprits before they do any more damage. Focusing mostly on the Boltund, Armand silently kept an eye on them while he held the reins tight as his Dark-type mount sped up. It wasn't until they stopped to see three Fire-types burning down another house. True to the couple's testimonies, there was a Charmeleon and its pre-evolutions. But upon seeing its size caused him to gasp at the fact that it was on par with its evolution, Charizard. However, his shock was short-lived when he heard a whimper. As he turned around, he gasped to see the Boltund that they aided them fled from the wild Pokemon and the trainer. "Mon Dieu! The Boltund!" Even if he wanted to chase them, they had other issues to take care of right now. So when he turned and noticed a flame that came out from Charmeleon's tail, he quickly got off Voyant's back and tossed a Poke Ball from his bag. "Serrer, use Water Gun!" Once his Cloyster got out, he quickly fired a beam of water on the flames to extinguish them in an attempt to protect Josh. While it might save him, they were not out of the woods just yet. "About time you called out, Armand." A voice called out in Armand's head, which he knew it came from Serrer's thoughts. "But fighting a Charmeleon seems like easy picking for me. Can't you let me fight something a bit harder?"The trainer rolled his eyes and sighed in annoyance as a response to his demands. Since he was with Josh, he had to limit his conversation with his Pokemon to avoid suspicion regarding his psychic abilities. "Josh, don't worry about us. We'll be here for support," he said to his friend. "Just focus on the alpha. Serrer, prepare for another Water Gun!""You don't have to tell me twice!"As his Cloyster charged up for another attack, Armand became a bit suspicious about this. Josh breathed a huge sigh of relief as a surge of water rushed between him and the Charmeleon's deadly Heat Wave. "...Thank you," he exhaled, nodding back to Armand before turning back to Blinky and gently patting her head on the one spot where there were no quills. "I don't want you involved in this battle at all; I just want you to keep me safe, okay?" The Jolteon nodded; she wouldn't have it any other way. The rest of the Heat Wave scorched the ground beneath them and what little foliage was around, igniting small shrubbery in the area. While the loss of life would be devastating to the community, the level of property damage would be almost as serious. With that understood, he sent out the rest of his team except for Inky; while there was a concern that the Charmeleon's Heat Wave would faint his entire team in one fell swoop, he needed to end this battle, and quickly. Having Armand's Water-type as backup gave Josh the courage to take such a big risk. There was no need to risk the Glaceon in this battle; direct contact with the Charmeleon's Heat Wave would cause grave injury or even a straight-up fatality. Bladestorm immediately took to the air and let out a war screech before diving in the fire-types' general direction in an attempt to get them to scatter. She managed to land on top of one of the Charmander too, scraping at the wild's upper body with her sharp beak. It didn't come without consequence, though; the one she attacked about-faced, slapping the metal bird with its lgnited tail and resting its tip underbeath her left wing. The other simply launched a barrage of Embers at her other side. Bladestorm squealed in pain, both from her wings getting searing hot to the point where she couldn't take to the air and her internal temperature rising to dangerous levels; the wilds were turning her hollow body into a kettle, steam flying from between her armor's joints. The rest of Josh's team wasn't going to let this happen. While Pinky stood in the middle of the three and sung a fairy tale in Pokémon language to try to get the wilds to calm down. While it wasn't an effective means of attack, it served as enough of a distraction for Clyde to charge toward the same Charmander and trip it. The fire-type face-planted, giving him the opportunity to trample over. While the wild wasn't holding an item for the Flareon to steal, the impact was enough to send the smaller fire-type packing. Twilight handled the other Charmander, feinting it with a charge in one direction before digging hard into the dirt bemeath for a sudden swerve. While she couldn't hit the fire-type with the edge of her blade thanks to the maneuver, the flat would do, knocking the small fire-type out in short order. Josh had made one fatal mistake, though; his Pokémon were still too close to each other! With a roar, the tall Charmeleon held his tail out and started spinning around, releasing a devastating Heat Wave in all directions. Josh yanked backward on Blinky. "Back, Armand!" he shouted to his friend, who was still well within the attack's range. The frightened Jolteon reared suddenly, pulling a 180 before galloping away from the Heat Wave and keeping Josh (barely) safe. Clyde was completely safe; if anything, the Flareon enjoyed the burning air. Josh's Skarmory was in the worst shape of all; upon contact with the unbearably hot air, she let out an unearthly shriek and collapsed to the ground with a loud thud, the bases of her wings glowing reds and oranges. She was seriously hurt; she might require extended time off to recover from a blow like that. Worse yet, Josh couldn't get close enough to her to recall her without exposing himself to the same attack. "Clyde, try to draw Charmeleon away from Bladestorm!" Josh commanded, the Flareon charging the big lizard again. There was no holding back now; all three of Josh's remaining Pokémon dogpiled the Charmeleon with swift charges, the Absol's so fast that it was blink-and-you-miss-it. While the three attacks were enough to draw the wild away from Bladestorm long enough for Josh to recall her, the angry fire-type wasn't going to let them get away scot-free. Josh squinted as the tail end of the Heat Wave reached him and Blinky mid-retreat. While they got away from it, Pinky and Twilight weren't so lucky. They were at the center of the discharge, both of them passing out from the tremendous heat. It looked like they were having trouble breathing. In desperation, Josh clicked the button on an empty Ultra Ball and hurled it toward the Charmeleon, if anything just to buy a little time. "I need backup!"
