Kasumi strolled into Professor Pear's lab like she wasn't internally buzzing with excitement, her hands in the pockets of her leather jacket and her gaze roving around with what she hoped was a look of disinterest, like she wasn't just clamoring to run straight to the professor and get her Pokémon. Nope, she was determined to be as chill as possible about all this to give Ageos itself a good first impression of her. But still, she was about to get a Pokémon that she could actually call her own, not just one of the Gastly hanging around Lavender that seemed to like following her around despite her lack of spiritual connection. Ugh, nope, she wasn't going to think about that, even if the frown it brought to her face did help with the cool image she was building up for herself. For now, she had something else to focus on.
"Hello?" she called out. "I'm here for my Pokémon."

[googlefont="Arimo"] From the back room came the sound of wheels on linoleum quickly followed by a door opening and footsteps. A young woman came out, smiling brightly at Kasumi despite the frowning.
"Oh, man, I'm sorry for making you wait! Usually I hear the front door but I'm a little distracted lately. Welcome to the lab! Come on back," she offered, adjusting her glasses and turning around to head back to where she came from with a gesture for the new coordinator-to-be to follow. Once they were back there, she snagged a clipboard with papers and a pen already on it and handed it to the black-haired individual.
"This just asks for some information about you to match you to the Ageos trainer interviews and to get some information so we can figure out what type of Pokemon might be best for you! If you have some more specific requests, those can be listed on the bottom, too. Just let me know when you're finished and we'll move onto the good parts," she assured with a giggle, leaving Kasumi to her paperwork for now.

Kasumi was a bit taken aback by the woman who emerged. "Are you the professor?" she asked. She'd expected someone a lot more... serious? Formal? More Rui-like, she reluctantly realized. Still, the sheer earnestness of this person chipped away at the façade that Kasumi had walked in with, and she let herself smile. In a cool, relaxed way, of course.
"No sweat," she said, removing one hand from her pockets as she shrugged. "Research gets busy, yeah?" Not that she'd know personally, but she had an idea, at least.
She took the proffered clipboard and pen and looked down. Great, more paperwork. She found it hard to be upset by this, though, with how bright the professor sounded. It was almost contagious. "Yeah, sure," she said before getting to work. It was pretty standard stuff, minus what the professor had mentioned about specific requests. Specific requests, huh? Kasumi thought. She moved the pen closer to her mouth, ready to chew on the end, only to realize just in time that that would not be a good idea with a borrowed pen and tap it against her cheek, instead.
Back in Lavender Town, she'd thought of catching or even adopting a Cubone. There was a good population of them in the area, they could use the bone they carried to play drums, and they had a skull motif built in. How cool was that? But in the end, she'd decided she'd rather not bring any reminders of home with her and start fresh in Ageos. Would asking for a Cubone cheapen that? What other Pokémon were out there that she could add to her future band? After a few moments of thought, she settled for writing a single sentence:
Something I can make music with.

[googlefont="Arimo"] "Me?! Oh, no, heh. I'm just an intern. I help out the professor. She's super busy with stuff. Sorry about that!"
The woman then nodded and giggled lightly, answering, "Always something to be checking out around here. Lots and lots of Pokemon to take care of and check out regularly, plus your average, every day sciency stuff." She grinned at Kasumi, leaving her to the papers. After a few minutes, she came back to check on the teen.
"All set, then?" Shifting slightly to take a peek at the paper if it wasn't directly handed to her--which, she would certainly take it if it was--she hummed thoughtfully. Music. There were plenty of musical Pokemon.
"A Chatot, maybe...? Or a Jigglypuff! My cousin once had a Jigglypuff that absolutely loved heavy metal. Amazing to see. Hmm... Oh! A Lotad, maybe. Ludicolo love music, but then you'd have to wait... What about a Chimecho?" With a laugh at that suggestion, she looked thoughtful another moment, took a good look at Kasumi, and a smile brightened her face.
Without another word, she hurried off toward a back room. A few minutes later, she came back with a bag containing some Pokeballs, Potions, and a couple extra things to help her out with her chosen class. Then, the Pokeball holding her starter.
"Go ahead... Let him out," the assistant encouraged, looking excited and utterly proud of herself for thinking of this. STATS

❝ Wanna put me in a box of glitter But I'm just trying to get right out ❞
Kasumi's eyes widened a bit. A Jigglypuff that loved heavy metal? Oh, she had to see that. (Something in the back of her mind told her she should feel bad for immediately dismissing Jigglypuff as being too cutesy for her tastes, but that was a life lesson to be revisited later.) Before Kasumi could voice her opinion on any of the other options, the assistant smiled and darted off to another room. Kasumi raised a brow and leaned over a bit, as if to get a better look at where she'd gone.
The assistant returned a few minutes later, and Kasumi suddenly found herself with a bag of supplies and a Poké Ball. She stared at said Ball, slightly dumbfounded, until the assistant encouraged her to let out the Pokémon inside. So Kasumi pressed the button in the center. The Poké Ball burst open in a flash of white light that flew down to the floor and materialized into...
a green monkey. Okay, that wasn't quite what Kasumi had been expecting.
The girl and the Pokémon looked at each other for several seconds, sizing each other up. Kasumi tried to recall what she knew about this little guy—Grookey, she was pretty sure he was called. Definitely Grass-type, standard starter for some distant region, and... Her eyes fell to the stick on his head. The Grookey followed her gaze, then pulled out the stick to hold it in his right hand. He began to tape a beat on the floor, and the metaphorical lightbulb in Kasumi's head lit up. She'd asked for a musical Pokémon, and she'd gotten a drummer!
"Aww, yeah!" Kasumi cheered as the Grookey started up a counter-beat with his free hand. "That's what I'm talking about!" She wished she had her guitar; she already wanted to do a jam session with this little guy! She held her arm out; the Grookey gibbered excitedly, put the stick back in its leafy tufts, and ran over to climb up Kasumi's arm and up onto her shoulder. Kasumi grinned at him... only to remember that the two weren't alone in the room. Face flushed, she cleared her throat and looked back toward the assistant, trying to tame her smile back into something more cool. "I like him."

[googlefont="Arimo"] The assistant had gotten a little giddy at the excitement shown, but when Kasumi finally turned her attention back to the woman, she just grinned and giggled happily.
"I'm so glad you like him. I thought you two would be a good fit. With that, as long as you have no further questions, you're all set! Thank you for visiting us here at the lab and good luck to you on your journey. Be sure to keep warm, winter's well on its way." With that said, she would walk with Kasumi back out to the lobby and offer her a wave. Unless, of course, the teen did have questions.

Kasumi and her new Grookey exchanged glances. "Nah, I think we're good," Kasumi said; the Grookey chittered and nodded. She followed the assistant to the lobby, then headed out the door with a wave of her own. "Thanks!" she called back. She almost scolded herself for giving into politeness, but... well, this lady deserved it, at least.
"You need a name," Kasumi said once she and her new Pokémon were outside. She looked at the Grookey still perched on her shoulder, who tilted his head with a quiet, questioning hoot. He was a drummer, there was no doubt about that, so he needed a name that fit that... She snapped her fingers as an idea came to her. "How about Ringo?"
The newly dubbed Ringo let out an excited hoot, hopped into a nearby tree, and started tapping a beat on its trunk. The leaves, which had changed color and drooped with the season, began to turn green again. Kasumi grinned. "I'll take that as a yes."
