General Appearance: Kasumi is a rather short Kantonian teenager with blue hair that goes past her shoulder blades and has a small bun tied up on the right side; the bun is almost always present regardless of hairstyle, which commonly includes a ponytail. Her typical outfits are on the punkish side, including leather jackets with a variety of pins, plaid clothing, and a variety of accessories such as a spiked choker.
Aura: Kasumi’s aura is like a large, bright lightning storm that crackles in red and orange with flashes of purple.
Personality Information
Personality: Kasumi is a rebellious teenager who unabashedly stands for her own morals and goals instead of conforming to what society expects from her. Though not deliberately cruel, she makes a point to avoid what she believes are the senseless niceties instilled in her by her more traditional family, and she’s not afraid to say what she really thinks about a situation or a person. She also has an inflated sense of self-importance, believing that she will one day be a famous rock star, and though that does give her the confidence she needs to face such a goal, it also tends to make her self-centered. More than anything, though, Kasumi suffers from middle child syndrome and wants to prove herself and set herself apart from the rest of her family.
History: Kasumi was the second child born to the Sasaki family in Lavender Town, between her older sister Rui and her younger sister Minako. Although her grandmother, father, and sisters all had the innate power to sense spirits, Kasumi lacked this ability, which put a metaphorical wall between her and the rest of her family except for her mother. Her father kept her relationship with the rest of the family stable, though, with his determination to treat Kasumi just like the rest of his children. Though Kasumi would never be able to experience the same “sixth sense” that her father taught her sisters to hone, she was still happy to listen to him talk about the spirits, his powers, and anything and everything else. Even at this young age, though, Kasumi began showing a rebellious streak, quickly growing bored with her grandmother’s attempts to teach her traditional dancing and how to play the shamisen.
When her father died when she was 11, Kasumi began to act out even more, feeling like she’d lost her connection to her spiritually gifted family members. She spent more time with her friends and less time at home, and as she grew older, she began to speak out against the traditions and the forced politeness that her family had fostered. She began learning music, but not in the way her grandmother had hoped: She discovered genres like rock and metal and started learning how to play the guitar and sing. At some point, she got the idea of becoming a famous rock star and has been determined to chase that dream since.
Yet she felt stifled by her traditional home life and the limited opportunities in Lavender Town and Kanto as a whole. She wanted to travel to other regions, especially ones like Hoenn with Contest Halls she could compete and prove herself in. When Rui began planning a research trip to Ageos, Kasumi saw her chance. She’ll never call what she did “begging,” but she managed to convince her family to let her go to Ageos with Rui. She’s determined to prove herself in the time she has here, no matter what it takes.
