Upon leaving the lab and heading into the unknown, Charlotte and Emolga began their journey through the first route Aegos, which also happened to be the first steps they would take in their journey. This was the beginning of everything she’d ever dreamed of, so to say that the eldest of the Summers children was excited was an understatement. She was shaking with anticipation as she gazed at the open field before her. It looked like a simple landscape, but it was a feeling and a site she wasn’t ever going to forget.
There was a little black at white Pokemon in her arms, an Emolga Professor Pear had called it. It seemed to be shaking too, but for… quite a different reason. This had been what the Emolga had looked forward to as well. It wasn’t like the little critter didn’t know what was most likely going to happen, Pokemon were quite smart, and Emolga tend to be especially clever, though it’s only known for mischievous reasons. Whatever fate she was meant for, as long as the Trainer was nice and good to her, this Emolga had been eager to go for pretty much her entire young life.
However, as she was getting farther and farther into this new wilderness, the Emolga was becoming progressively more and more nervous. The Emolga’s ears had dropped down to the sides of her face, and though the new Trainer was too caught up by the scene ahead of her to notice at first, it wasn’t completely lost on Charlotte. “Hey,” the girl said, trying to talk to the Emolga with a soothing voice, one she’d used on her brother many times to soothe him. “What’s the matter Emolga?”
“...Emon…” the Emolga whimpered a bit as she looked around nervously, and sank into her Trainer’s arms a bit.
“Aw, it’s okay,” Charlotte said, trying to soothe her only Pokemon’s nerves, though she was… incredibly new to dealing with problems like this. She wasn’t even sure what the problem was. “We’re going to have a lot of fun on this adventure, okay? So how about we chin up!” It was… an attempt to cheer the little squirrel up, though it wasn’t perfect. Charlotte seemed way too eager to get the journey started to even try to figure out what the problem was.
Still, the nervous Emolga seemed to snap out of it as she shook her head and allowed her large ears to perk back up, though they still drooped a little bit. “Emon!” The Emolga tried to voice with more confidence, which was enough to satisfy her Trainer.
“Great! Now let’s see if we can find any new Pokemon to be our friends, huh?” This definitely brightened up Emolga a bit more. It seemed like she was just as excited to get more teammates as her Trainer, and the squirrel nodded eagerly to this. Though it wasn’t certain if this would last long, the Emolga seemed to cheer up at least a little bit.

As the two traveled along farther down the path, the Emolga seemed to brighten up a bit, though she still seemed a bit nervous as it kept glancing back in the direction that they came. This time the squirrel wasn’t quite so dramatic enough for her Trainer to notice, but that might’ve given the Emolga the opportunity for the nerves to stir a bit. The Emolga looked up at her Trainer, who was quite content on her journey, before realizing she didn’t really think about too hard until now.
And it seemed like it wouldn’t be thought up all that much harder anyway as her round ears perked up at the sound of… splashing? “Emon?” The little Emolga pushed herself out of her Trainer’s arms, which was something the girl wasn’t quite prepared for, but the Emolga managed to slowly glide to the ground before walking on all fours toward the direction of the sound.
“What’s wrong, Emolga?” Charlotte questioned as the squirrel sniffed along the air before turning to face her Trainer who was now kneeling at her level. “What ya sniffing at?”
“Emo monga!” The Emolga pointed at the direction where the sound was coming from before running in that direction on all fours. “Emonga!” The young woman almost flinched at the little squirrel’s sudden eagerness.
“H-huh?!” The girl yelped before running after Emolga. “H-hey! Not so fast! Wait for me!” The teen ran as fast as she could after the quadruped, but the Emolga was quite quick on the ground. The Emolga kept standing up on her tiny feet to allow her Trainer to catch up but would then dart off again as fast as she could once the girl had managed to catch up. “Slow down, Emolga! What are you..?” And just as soon as the chase had started, it stopped, and the teen was two seconds away from stepping on Emolga’s tail before just barely managing to lean herself back enough to step backward.
The Emolga hadn’t been aware of how close her poor tail had been to extreme pain as she stared at the little pond that was in front of them. The girl let out a sigh before placing both hands on her hips and looking down at the squirrel, somewhat exasperated. “Emolga, you almost gave me a…” It was only then that the teen started hearing the splashing sounds, too. The teen arched an eyebrow a bit as she looked at the Emolga’s face, a bright smile spread across her face.
This practically forced the teen to lift her head up and look toward the lake just after realizing she’d heard some splashes. The teen had to cover and lowered herself into a lying position in an attempt to hide, her mouth from letting out a screech… the teen couldn’t believe what her eyes were seeing. Laying in the water, belly up, and as relaxed as a Pokemon could possibly be, was a Totodile. The little Big Jaw Pokemon looked as if it were taking a nap, floating on the top of the water. The little Water Type Pokemon’s tiny claws on her belly would itch at it a bit before the Totodile let out a big yawn. Seemed like it’d been someone’s naptime.
“Aw…” The teen quietly cooed at the reptile Pokemon. “What a cute little Pokemon!”
“Emon!” The Emolga whispered as well with just as much enthusiasm. Emolga seemed quite familiar with this Pokemon, as any sort of nervousness about the travel had instantly vanished upon seeing this Pokemon. It wasn’t surprising really. The squirrel had seen this kind of Pokemon at the lab all the time. Totodile were one of the more popular choices for new Trainers, though they did have a habit of biting.
Being a native of Unova, Charlotte had never seen a Pokemon like this before, and honestly, this was precisely what she’d been looking for. “Hey, Emolga?”
“Emon?” The Emolga tilted her head a little bit.
“Wanna go for it?”
“Emon?”
The teen took out a red sphere before enlarging it and smiling. “Let’s make that Totodile our first new friend! What’dya say?”
“Emon…” The Emolga looked down a bit in thought before a smile formed on her face and she nodded. “Emon!”
“You’re in?” The Trainer asked, getting confirmation with another eager nod. “Alright, then! I’m counting on you, so let's do our best to capture it!”
“Emon, Emonga!” The Emolga said, even more enthusiastic about this.
The teen smiled and nodded. “Okay,” Charlotte whispered before looking over at the resting Totodile. “Let’s catch us a Totodile, then.” The teen glanced down at the little Emolga before whispering. “Emolga, go!”
“Emonga!” The Emolga nodded as she leaped on her feet and glided into position, slowly landing on her feet on the ground, sparking her cheeks as she pointed at the Totodile. “Emonga!” The Emolga shouted, announcing her presence, causing the previously relaxed reptile to almost jump out of her scales before looking directly at the little squirrel and then smiled and waved at her.
“Toto toto!” the small reptile greeted with a waved before swimming toward the Emolga and stepping out of the pond. Wow… quite friendly for a wild Pokemon. The Emolga stopped her cheeks from sparking as she’d expected the Totodile to be ready for a fight, and… totally didn’t expect this kind of friendly greeting. It… kind of caught her a bit off guard. “Totodile?” The Totodile tilted her head a bit at the Emolga’s strange reaction, but this seemed to be enough to actually snap the squirrel out of it as she steadied herself on four paws.
“Emon monga, mon?” The Emolga flapped her tail back and forth in a sort of eager fashion. The Emolga’s cheeks started sparking again, and though the Totodile remained confused for a couple seconds longer, it didn’t take long for the reptile to realize what was going on. This was further confirmed by Charlotte stepping in, a bright grin plain on her face.
But even at that, the Totodile once again surprised them by giving Emolga a nod and backing away. The Totodile bared its claws and… in quite an adorable way tried to look friendly. Well, this Pokemon was certainly cooperative. Was it really necessary to even battle it in order to capture it? The even tempered Totodile raised up her little clawed hands and waved it toward her as if giving the Emolga permission to strike first. This… this couldn’t be a wild Pokemon, could it? “Toto.”
The Emolga quickly recovered from the confusion, but the teen thought of something that made her a little less eager to jump the gun. “Um…” Charlotte hummed before turning her attention to Emolga. “...What attacks do you have again?”
“Emon?” The Emolga tilted her head. Hadn’t the Professor explained this to Charlotte already? The Totodile lowered her paws a bit and tilted her head a bit as the girl struggled to remember the attacks… then it dawned on her. The Emolga had a tail, right? So, logically speaking…
“Alright, Emolga,” Charlotte spoke up before pointing forward. “Use Tail Whip!” The Emolga’s large round ears perked up as the Emolga nodded, wagging her tail back and forth with a bright smile on her face. The Totodile stared at the squirrel for a few seconds before… feeling her guard go down a bit. The Totodile shook her head a bit before facing the squirrel before lowering her face a bit before giving a slight glare at the Electric Type, causing a slight chill to run up the Emolga’s spine.
Charlotte thought the Leer attack was still… kind of cute, but even more so was how Emolga still managed to be a little intimidated by such an adorable attack. The girl took a moment to try and remember the attacks… before it dawned on her. “Emolga, use your Nuzzle attack!” Charlotte commanded, causing the Emolga to nod as the Emolga’s cheeks started to spark again as she ran forward to try and ram her cheek into the Totodile’s face.
The young reptile Pokemon managed to swerve to the side just in time to avoid the attack. The Water Type, however, was close enough not to give the Emolga the opportunity to avoid what came next. The Totodile pulled back and scratched the Emolga’s face with its sharp claws. “Toto… dile!” The impact of the claws knocked the Emolga back quite a bit with a squeak.
“Emon!” The Emolga managed to barely recover by bouncing back with her tail as support. The Emolga’s cheeks started sparking again before realizing the Totodile was running toward the Emolga at full throttle, fists clenched and a bit of a crazed look in her eyes. “Emon!” If this attack hit, the Emolga might’ve been in real trouble. Luckily for her, Charlotte managed to remember another attack.
“Emolga, Double Team!” The teen shouted out, causing the Emolga to vanish from her spot and appear with many copies of herself surrounding the hapless Totodile. The Water Type glanced around in quite a bit of confusion. “Now, use Nuzzle!” Charlotte commanded again, and the Emolga’s cheeks started to spark again. The Totodile turned around, ready to try and Thrash at the Emolga again, but this time the Emolga managed to be too close for the young Totodile to avoid the attack that came next. The Emolga’s Nuzzle attack made contact, causing the Totodile to yelp in quite a bit of pain.
The Totodile skidded backward before feeling like it was hard to move. “To...do…” The Totodile managed to recover enough to jump at the real Emolga and slash another Scratch attack at her face, causing her to yelp, but was in too bad of a way to do much else. Charlotte grinned.
“One more Nuzzle, Emolga!” Charlotte commanded.
“Emonga!” The Emolga’s cheeks buzzed with electricity before it made contact again, causing the Totodile to yelp, now completely overwhelmed with the electricity that buzzed around her. It was time.
Charlotte brought out one of the Pokeballs that was given to her by Professor Pear and tossed it at the Totodile. “Todo, you’re mine!” The girl shouted, thinking its name was Todo, and as the ball bounced on the Water Type’s head with a “thunk” and opened up to absorb the light the Totodile had turned into into the sphere before shutting. The girl and emolga both stared in anticipation. Charlotte’s first capture attempt… would it be successful?

Charlotte and Emolga both stared as the Pokeball twitched one way and the other, a cold sweat dripping down the back of the girl’s neck from anticipation. Emolga… didn’t quite understand what was happening as much as her Trainer, but the Pokemon could sense Charlotte’s nervousness, or at least something about it, and thus felt her ears lower a little bit. What took only seconds felt like an eternity before finally…
...CLICK!
The teen flinched at the sound of the clicking sound, expecting the Totodile to leap out of the ball as it popped open, but… nothing happened. The Emolga stared at the ball, and it dawned on her first that the Totodile wasn’t going to pop out. The Emolga walked over to the ball on her two hind legs before slowly picking up the sphere with her two paws and sniffing at it before forming a tiny smile on her face. “Emon!” Emolga squeaked before turning to her Trainer and lifting it up from Charlotte to see. “Emanmo! Emonga!” The squirrel lifted the ball toward her Trainer with her two paws, the smile on her face having increased by now.
Charlotte finally caught onto the fact that Totodile wasn’t about to pop out, the teen formed a massive smile on her face and clasped the ball into her hand, almost causing her Emolga to jump out of her skin in fright. “We did it!” The girl practically screamed in delight as she held the ball up in victory before grabbing the Emolga’s paws in her hands and spinning the squirrel around. “We did it, Emolga! We caught our first Pokemon, and it’s… it’s…” The girl stopped dancing around before looking back at the ball. “Well… I don’t really know what it is…” She admitted before beaming again. “But that means it’s probably a really rare one, right? Right?”
While she wasn’t wrong, Unova didn’t really have a tone of Pokemon that wasn’t native to its region. So, really, she didn’t know much about Oddish, much less Totodile, so an Oddish could’ve been mistaken to be as rare as a Totodile. Still, the Emolga smiled up at her Trainer, revering in her new Trainer’s victory. Despite the girl’s lack of knowledge, the Emolga could only smile at her Trainer since she knew… well, perhaps less than her Trainer did, really. The only reason she recognised the Totodile was because there were so many at the lab, so as far as she knew, there could’ve been loads of Totodile everywhere.
But, Emolga would take Charlotte’s word for it.
“Emon emon!” The Emolga smiled and nodded as Charlotte knelt down and held the Pokeball out for her Emolga to see.
“There’s going to be more where this one came from Emolga! Let’s make lots of friends, okay?”
“Emonga!” In excitement, the Emolga raised her paws in the air before accidentally smacking her trainer’s hand and causing the Pokeball to roll right out of it and down the side of the river. In total shock, the duo just stared at the rolling Pokeball before instantly snapping out of it and nearly jumping in fright as they started a downhill run after it.
“Pokeball, don’t roll away, come back!” The poor girl shouted out, running at full speed as Emolga ran ahead even faster on all fours.
“Emonga!”

Notes: I'm trying to figure out a way for Emolga to say Charlotte's name, but it's not an incredibly smooth endeavor. Might have to come up with a sort of nickname or something for her to call with... as well as a name for Emolga and Totodile that I like.

The Pokeball continued increasing its momentum as it rolled along the dirt path, but the teen and squirrel continued right on its tail. The girl was starting to find it hard to catch her breath, but that wouldn’t stop her from chasing after the first Pokemon she caught. Emolga dashed on ahead, easily surpassing the pace her Trainer was making by at least a foot. “Oh, why isn’t this ball slowing down?!” The girl shouted in frustration, at the predicament.
“Emo emo!” The Emolga shouted with equal frustration. Who knew a Pokeball could roll so fast anyway? The teen’s progress was suddenly halted when she rammed face first into a tree, ramming her nose into the side of it so hard her face started to hurt. The girl landed on her back side as she let out a bit of a whine in pain from the sudden impact. This, consequently, stopped the Emolga dead in her tracks, forcing her to turn around to check on her Trainer. “Emonga?” The squirrel squeaked in a bit of concern as the teen started to rub her head a little.
“Emolga, don’t stop,” The teen said, shaking her head a little before forcing herself onto her feet. “You need to get that poke… huh?” The teen blinked a bit in surprise as she seemed to be… well, she was surrounded by honey, conveniently in cases around her. “How’d these get here? I wonder if they belong to anyone…”
“Emo emonga…” The Emolga mused aloud along with her Trainer.
“...Well, it’s strange that they’d be found in the middle of a field,” the teen admitted as she considered her options. After a few moments, the girl started gathering the jars. “I’d better keep them with me even if they do belong to someone else. Maybe someone dropped them and I can find whoever they belong to.” And if it turned out they didn’t belong to anyone… well, finder’s keepers!
“Emonga! Emo emon!” The Emolga waved her paws around pointing in the direction Totodile’s Pokeball rolled off to.
“Huh?” The girl asked, not understanding what the squirrel was saying right away. “What’s the matter, Emolga?” It was then that the girl caught an… odd glimpse of something. It was… blue… like the… the Pokemon! “Oh yeah! Toto!” The young woman tried to concentrate to get that color to appear again, but… no good. It only appeared for a second, and it didn’t seem interested in appearing again. “Emolga, please, help me find that Pokeball!”
“Emonga!” The Emolga tapped the paw on her chest before she started heading toward the direction the ball had rolled and started sniffing around. The search for the Pokeball was still underway...

The girl and her Emolga continued to search for Totodile’s Pokeball, but there didn’t seem to be a glimpse of it anywhere. The two had been searching for over an hour before the two of them finally had to take a break, solemnly considering the fact that the first Pokemon Charlotte ever caught may be lost forever. The girl let out a sigh in utter defeat, overcome by grief that she may never see that sweet little croc Pokemon again. It… just wasn’t fair. She’d worked so hard to catch that Pokemon, and just like that, it was gone. “This is such a bummer, Emolga…” The girl leaned into the palm of her hand as the squirrel beside her slumped over as well.
“Emon…” The Emolga sighed out her head lowering a bit.
The girl sat and allowed her frustration to stew… emotions swirled in her head like batter being swirled around with a beater. The girl’s cheeks suddenly started to fill with air as her face started to flush a bit, a sensation starting to rise from the pit of her stomach before glaring down at her unaware Pokemon who seemed just as bummed about this as she’d been. This changed when the girl pointed an accusatory finger at the Emolga’s face, causing her to jump to her feet in shock. “This is all your fault!” the girl shouted, quite a bit overcome with anger. “You knocked that Pokeball out of my hand! Why couldn’t you be more careful? Now we’ll never see that Pokemon again!”
The girl pouted and folded her arms over her chest, turning away from the little squirrel Pokemon who was… rather caught off guard by her Trainer’s sudden outburst. The Emolga didn’t react right away, but after a few moments of silence, the teen heard a plopping sound next to her and… the sensation that caused Charlotte to snap suddenly morphed into something else. There was a sickening sensation in the pip of her stomach, a sinking sensation causing the girl to feel a tad ill. “Emon…” The pathetic little whimper from the little squirrel certainly didn’t sound like a Pokemon who wanted to fight at the moment.
Normally the girl would’ve been more keen to stick her ground, but the whimper from the Emolga was so pitiful even she started to consider if she was maybe a tad too harsh. “...Hey, Emolga, I-” Before she could say anything, the two of them heard a rustling noise in the bushes, and out popped… another Pokemon Charlotte had never seen before. A sort of… raccoon thing? Well, it certainly looked cute, and part of her wanted it, but it was actually the thing it was holding that the girl was more concerned about. “It’s got a Pokeball, Emolga! That must be Toto’s!”
“E...mon?” The Emolga was about to be just as eager about it, but… something didn’t seem right about it. The Emolga sniffed the air and tilted her head a bit before running over to the Sentret on all fours. “Emo emo. Emonga?” The little Emolga voiced her concern over the Pokeball, and the Sentret’s ears perked up a bit in surprise before lowering and looking over to the ball timidly. The Sentret squinted her eyes shut before ultimately glaring at the Pokeball and raising herself up on her tail in an attempt to intimidate the Emolga. Being a few inches taller than Emolga anyway, it would’ve worked swimmingly… if it weren’t for one thing.
“Sentret!”
...The Sentret’s voice was so meek and quiet even when she was trying to sound menacing, Emolga, amidst being intimidated, couldn’t help but form a bit of a nervous grin. “E-emonga…” The squirrel giggled a bit at the Sentret, which only seemed to make the Normal Type angry. The Sentret pulled her bushy arm back before swiping the Emolga in the face with a Scratch attack, causing the little squirrel to yelp at the sudden pain. “Emon!”
“Emolga!” Charlotte called out as the Emolga rolled backward, rubbing the side of her face and glared at the Sentret, cheeks and tail sparking quite a bit. “Emolga, you okay?”
“Emonga!” The little squirrel shouted out, reassuring her Trainer, though she didn’t seem to want to look directly at Charlotte, causing her stomach to drop again. It seemed like she’d already caused quite a problem between them, hasn’t she? The two quadruped Pokemon glared each other down, both now intent on getting the Pokeball away from each other. The Emolga’s ears perked up enough to indicate to her Trainer to give it some sort of direction.
Charlotte, unlike herself, caught on very quickly. “Uh,” Though her reaction time was much to be desired. “Emolga! Use Double Team!” The Trainer called out.
“Emonga!” The Emolga started running on all fours, but… the Sentret didn’t seem worried in the slightest. Straightening itself up, Sentret’s stare seemed to harden on the Emolga, a slight glint in the eye indicating the raccoon’s confidence.
“Alright, now use Nuzzle!” The electricity on her cheeks intensified as she moved to rub her cheek on the Sentret, but suddenly the Normal Type turned around and started so intently at the Emolga, the squirrel seemed to freeze. In an instant… the copies caused by Double Team were all gone, as if they’d never happened! “Emolga, what’s going on?”
“...Emon?” The equally confused Emolga looked around desperately before the Sentret took a step back and rammed into the Emolga at such speed, the Emolga didn’t even have time to think. “Ga!!!” The Emolga whined before rolling backward again and squinted an eye shut from the damage she’d endured.
“Emolga, you okay?” The Emolga responded by hopping up into the sky and flying over to a tree before perching on one of its branches. Charlotte glared at Emolga. “Hey, you can’t bail in the middle of a battle! We need to get…” Before the girl could finish her thought, there seemed to be a strange light that surrounded the Emolga, catching both the human and the Sentret off guard. What was that? She didn’t know Emolga were capable of… whatever this was.
It took a few moments, but it didn’t take too long for the Emolga to snap out of whatever state she was in before swooping down from the trees, electricity dancing around her, and ramming into the Sentret cheek first, finishing that initial Nuzzle attack before the Sentret could get away. “Sentret!” Now it was the Normal Type’s turn to yelp and roll backward away from Emolga, though this one rammed into the tree back first. The Sentret felt a buzzing sensation around her body as Nuzzle once again paralyzed Emolga’s enemy.
The Sentret managed to recover enough, though, as it didn’t seem as effective against the Sentret as it had been on Totodile. The Normal Type took a step back and started dashing around at full speed toward the Emolga and rammed into her at full speed again, causing the squirrel to yelp, but the Flying type managed to catch enough of a breeze to keep herself from crashing this time. “Emonnn… ga!” The Emolga stood on her two feet, rolling her tiny paws into fists as she prepared herself for her Trainer’s next command.
“Emolga, use Tail Whip!”
“Emon!” The Emolga started wagging her tail, causing the same guard lowering sensation that happened to Totodile to happen to Sentret.
“Double Team!” The teen called out confidently, urging the same confidence to exude from the Emolga.
“Emon!” But… this resulted in nothing happening. “Emo?” Double Team wouldn’t be of any use to them in this battle it seemed, but Foresight couldn’t do anything about Sentret’s Paralysis. The raccoon ran over at the Squirrel on all fours, readying herself to use another Scratch attack, but the Sentret was overwhelmed by the paralysis Nuzzle had caused.
“Emolga, use another Tail Whip!” Charlotte commanded, and Emolga obliged, wagging her tail again, and lowering the Sentret’s guard even further. This, however, didn’t necessarily make the Sentret feel very good about the situation. “Now use Nuzzle again!” Charlotte commanded.
“E..mon!” The Emolga rammed into the Sentret, cheeks sparking, and caused the Sentret to yelp in even more pain. The impact of the attack caused the Sentret to roll farther away before ending up on all fours and nervously rolling into a ball. The Sentret then unrolled and ran at the Emolga, meeting her with another Scratch attack, causing the Emolga to yelp again. “Emon...ga!” The Emolga managed to steady herself again, but she and the Sentret were both equally at odds with each other.
The Sentret backed up and turned to grab the Pokeball, but Emolga’s reaction time was faster. The Sentret was hit with another strong Nuzzle attack, causing the sentret to roll away from the two before… finally keeling over from all the attacks. “Sen… tret…” The Emolga panted from the fierce fight before slumping to the ground, seeming to just barely hang on enough. This… wasn’t great, since fighting a wild Sentret definitely didn’t equate to a gym match, but the Emolga felt bushed as if she’d fought enough to warranty a gym badge.
Still, that didn’t make Charlotte any less proud of her first Pokemon as she ran up to the Emolga and scooped her into the air as the squirrel made sure to hold onto the Pokeball nice and tight. “You did it, Emolga!” the new Trainer shouted, making the Emolga incapable of anything other than smiling as wide as she could.
“Emon!” This had been her first taste of a Pokemon battle, and boy was it sweet. The Emolga turned over to the Sentret, who’d recovered from the loss of the battle, glanced over at the Emolga and darted away in fright. Probably the best thing to do if she didn’t want to get paralyzed again.
“That’ll teach that one not to mess with people’s Pokemon!” The girl shouted, before looking at the Emolga with a smile before… instantly dropping it. “Hey, um… I’m really sorry for yelling at you, okay? I was just… really worried about Toto…”
The smile on Emolga’s face instantly vanished as she looked over at the Pokeball she was holding and started sniffing at it before tilting her head a little bit. “Emo emon! Emonga mon mon!” The Emolga started tapping her paw on the ball and waved her paws around desperately. The girl was confused before noticing… a sticker on the ball? Wait, Totodile’s Pokeball never had a sticker on it! That… that could only mean…
“This isn’t Toto’s ball! Emolga, this Pokeball belongs to someone else, we need to find whoever this ball belongs to.”
“Emo emon!”
“And Toto, too, of course.”
“Emon.”

As soon as that declaration was made, the Trainer and her Pokemon heard more rustling in the bushes, and out came… a fluffy little Minccino! This caused the girl to smile, but… she already knew about Minccino, didn’t she? Did she really want to use up another Pokeball on one? More importantly, the girl noticed that it didn’t seem to be holding anything. Not a Pokeball, not an item, not… anything. Still, Charlotte supposed Emolga could use some more fighting experience.
“Looks like another opportunity to get stronger to me!” Charlotte announced before turning her attention to her only available Pokemon, Emolga. “Alright then, let’s start with a Nuzzle attack, go Emolga!” The teen pointed in the Minccino’s direction, but… no one did anything after that. The Minccino stared at the human and the Emolga for a few seconds, his ears twitched, and then he… just started to lick his arm. The teen hummed in confusion. “Emolga, didn’t you hear me?” The teen looked back down at the Emolga, who was now backed away from the Trainer a bit, and tried to keep herself hidden.
“Emon…” The Emolga whined a bit as her ears and tail lowered, causing the teen to sigh.
“Oh, now what?”
“Mon mon…” The Emolga shook her head a little bit before sitting down in a bit of protest. It didn’t dawn on the teen right away what the problem was.
“What’s the matter Emolga?” The teen questioned. “Don’t you wanna battle?”
“Emo emon!” The Emolga shook her head even more rigorously, finally getting the message across. The teen looked over at the Minccino, who had just tilted his head a little before the little chinchilla ran off and scurried into the bushes.
“Oh, wait!” The teen called out before letting out a sigh in defeat. Well, there went that potential battle experience, but it wasn’t like the Minccino had Totodile’s Pokeball anyway, so it wasn’t a huge loss. This sudden shift in Emolga’s behavior was a tad bit more of a concern of Charlotte’s. The teen then noticed that the Emolga didn’t get up right away and let out a sigh. “Aw, are you getting tired?”
“Mo…” The Emolga whimpered a little, nodding a little before being scooped up by her Trainer.
“Yeah, you’re right,” The Trainer nodded in agreement with Emolga. “We should probably keep our focus on finding Toto anyway.” The teen dug in her pocket and pulled out a Pokeball before showing it to Emolga. “If you want, you can rest up here, and I can look for Toto.” The Emolga stared at the ball for several moments, staring at her own before glaring at it and shook her head again.
“Emonga!” The Emolga then climbed up her Trainer’s shoulder and onto her head and made her perch right there. “Emonga…”
“You’re gonna try to keep an eye for Toto up there?”
“Emon!”
“Alright then,” Charlotte smiled a little. “Let me know if you change your mind then.”

WC: 513 Notes: Emolga feels a little on the tired side to fight another Pokemon, so she chooses not to. Charlotte let's Minccino run off, but something tells her this isn't going to be the last time Emolga pulls something like this.

The duo had made some more progress down the road, but without any sign of another Pokeball, the teen was really starting to get on edge. The Emolga’s ears had lowered as she glanced down at her with clear pity on her little face, though with the two of them not knowing each other very well yet, the Emolga wasn’t sure how to help her feel better. So the squirrel simply leaned her cheek on her head as the teen kept marching forward.
The two of them noticed a group of Kricketots walking in the direction they had just left, and the teen was almost intrigued by one that seemed… quite a bit bigger than most Pokemon she’d ever seen in general, as well as one that had a different color. However, the teen opted to keep moving forward without engaging with them. There was a poor little Pokemon trapped in a Pokeball, and she intended to find her one way or another.
The Emolga’s ears started to twitch a bit before opening her eyes, as it seemed as though she had fallen asleep a bit, and raised her upper half up a bit as she glanced around the area. The teen didn’t really notice until the Emolga pushed herself up onto her hind legs and then glided down to the ground. “What’s the matter, Emolga?” the teen asked as the Emolga landed on her two tiny feet standing on all fours, allowing her yellow cheeks to buzz a bit.
“Emon mon…” The Emolga growled a bit, bringing the human’s attention in the direction the Squirrel was looking, and sure enough, in the distance was another Pokemon. In fact, there were two of them, and they seemed a least a little similar to Emolga. That, however, wasn’t even the thing that grabbed Emolga’s attention, nor did they totally keep Charlotte’s. It seemed as though the two fairly small Pokemon were playing with… something.
“What is..?” The teen allowed her question to drop as the item they were playing with became more clear: a Pokeball. They were playing with a Pokeball… but… was that Totodile’s ball? The teen glanced over at Emolga, who was staring intently at the two Pokemon playing with the ball. The teen’s eyes looked sternly at Emolga before she voiced her question. “Emolga… do you think that’s Toto’s ball?”
“......” The Emolga stared at the little Pokemon, one a little yellow mouse looking Pokemon, and an orange one with buck teeth. Both seemed to have quite a bit of similarities to Emolga with probably the only real obvious difference being the lack of gliding membranes. But these two Pokemon weren’t native to Unova, so once again Charlotte didn’t seem to know what they were, but Emolga seemed to have a bit of a… connection to them.
Perhaps they were a different subspecies of Emolga?
“...Emonga!” Without warning, the little squirrel ran forward on all fours toward the two rodents, causing her Trainer to call out to her a little louder than she liked, but lucky for Charlotte, the two little Pokemon seemed far too caught up in their playing to notice. “Emonga!” The little squirrel called out, causing the other two Pokemon to jump a little in surprise, but they seemed to instantly relax upon seeing the Emolga.
The orange one, the one currently sitting on the Pokeball, waved his little paw at her to greet Emolga. “Dennnene, dedenne nene!” The little Pokemon greeted before motioning at the ball as he offered to play with her and the Pokeball. The yellow one, who seemed to be the younger of the two, walked toward Emolga and gave the squirrel a paw to shake with.
“Pichu pichu?” the little yellow Pokemon greeting causing the Emolga to reciprocate with a smile.
“Emon!” the Emolga squeaked herself before clasping the Pichu’s tiny paw in her own, only to be met with a tiny jolt… well it would’ve hurt anyway, but it seemed as though Emolga wasn’t at all fazed by the tiny jolt. “Emon?” The confused tilt of her head did send the two smaller Pokemon into a fit of laughter, however, as the orange one in particular started smacking the Pokeball in a fit of hysterical laughter. Emolga… wasn’t actually sure why they were laughing all of a sudden, but the squirrel didn’t seem to take it personally and started to giggle a little herself.
The two little Pokemon stopped their fit of laughter before bringing their attention back to the Emolga herself, the yellow one speaking up again. “Pichu pichu! Pichu pi pichu!” The little Pokemon waved her tiny paws around ecstatically as she grabbed Emolga’s paw and tried to pull her with them to play. It seemed like the two Pokemon had quickly grown fond of the Emolga, but the Emolga stopped for a second before she started speaking again.
“Emonga! Emon monmon! Monga emonga mon!” The Emolga pointed at the Pokeball and formed a rather concerned expression on her face as she clasped her hands together, seeming to plead with them. This caused the two pranksters to look at the Emolga sadly before turning their attention to each other and staring for several moments before their gazes hardened a bit and they nodded.
“Denne!” The orange one hopped off the ball, and pressed the button of the Pokeball, and to the two little ones’ surprise, a light bursted out of the ball, and finally, there was a rather exhausted looking Totodile. The two of them looked at this quite horrified, as it seemed they didn’t realize that there was a Pokemon in the ball at all. “Dennene?!” The orange one called out as all three rodents ran right for the Totodile.
“Emonga?” The Emolga asked, causing the delirious Totodile to glance over at the Emolga, and hop into a standing position, giving her a rather perplexed expression, but seemed to look alright otherwise. Though, considering the last thing the Water Type remembered was battling the Emolga, she wasn’t quite sure what was going on exactly. The Emolga didn’t exactly care at the moment as she embraced her new friend quite eagerly. “Emonga!”
The Totodile, being quite capable of adapting, seemed to get the gist as she figured the fight probably ended. It was then that she noticed the Pokeball, and with an arched eyebrow, the Totodile’s eyes widened before staring at the Emolga aghast. “Totodile?” the crocodile quacked, causing the Emolga to smile and nod. The Totodile blinked a few times, but seemed to grin at this new development before looking around, realizing that… well the human that had been with the Emolga before wasn’t there.
“Toto!” The girl called out, causing the crocodile and squirrel to turn over to their Trainer, both with eager smiles on their faces. The other two Pokemon, on the other hand, twitched and backed away from them the group as the teen embraced her utterly confused Totodile. “Oh, I’m so glad you’re okay! I’m so sorry, are you okay?”
The Totodile quickly recovered from the initial confusion, smiling at her Trainer and waving her paw in the air reassuringly. “Dah! Totodah!” The girl looked a tad perplexed at the crocodile seeming to add more letters into her name, but ultimately allowed that to slide as she scooped the blue Pokemon up into a hug. The crocodilian blinked a little before opening her mouth and biting down on the girl’s shoulder.
The Emolga, who’d previously been smiling from ear to ear, and the two other rodent Pokemon, who now had their ears raised up, now all felt a chill up their spine as the teen formed a rather horrified smile on her face that slowly dropped to a frown as her mouth gaped open in shock. “Emon!” The Emolga squeaked out in shock at the display, unsure of how her Trainer would handle it, and at first it didn’t seem like she’d do anything.
Well, that was simply because the pain wasn’t recognized upon impact, but once it did… you could bet the poor teen was screaming. “Ah, Toto! Toto, why’d you bite me?! Toto, let go, c’mon!” The teen squirmed trying to yank the Totodile off her shoulder, but the croc seemed all too content to keep her jaw locked right on that shoulder. It seemed that she’d mistaken her screams for cheers, and chose to somehow bite her even harder. The rush of extra pain was instant this time, and overwhelming, causing her to keel over and start wincing in pain.
Only then did Toto finally get the message and stop biting her Trainer.

The teen started stroking the Emolga’s head a little bit, causing her to lean her head into her hand a bit. The Emolga was quite disappointed that the little electric rodents ran off, but at least they were able to find Totodile. Still, she would’ve really liked to be friends with those two. “Those were two other electric rodents, right?” Charlotte questioned aloud, though she didn’t expect the Emolga to really know one way or another what any of that really meant. “They looked quite a bit like you. Did you want to play with them some more?”
“Emon monga…” The little squirrel sadly nodded before her Trainer smiled sadly back at her.
“Sorry Emolga… Maybe we’ll see them again soon! We’ve got all the time in the world, really! So how about we-” Before the girl could finish her thoughts, a stream of water came from behind the teen, striking the Emolga right in the face and knocking her out of her Trainer’s hands, causing the squirrel to slam right into the ground back first.
“Mon!” The Emolga grunted before swiftly hopping onto all fours, electricity dancing around her. Across from her, also standing on all fours, was a Squirtle, glaring at her quite steadfastly. In fact, the sparks coming from Emolga seemed to only make the Squirtle all the more tense. “Emonga!” The little squirrel practically barked at the turtle, though this didn’t seem to deter the Water Type.
“Squirtle…” The turtle growled back.
“Emonga!” The big Squirtle launched another stream of water at the Emolga, revealing herself to be the culprit who had attacked the squirrel. The Emolga simply jumped out of the way this time, rubbed her paws against her cheeks and rammed right into the Squirtle’s head cheek first, making contact with her Nuzzle attack, and causing the Squirtle to yelp in a bit of pain. More electricity seemed to dance around the turtle, but the Emolga didn’t back down from her assault. She started running at the Squirtle at full speed, though this was ultimately her undoing.
The larger turtle watched the squirrel carefully, and jumped before aiming a decisive tackle right into the back of the Emolga’s head. "Emon!" The Sky Squirrel cried out in pain. This knocked the poor thing out instantly, ending the Emolga’s payback.
“Emolga!” Charlotte called out, the wounded squirrel moaning in response as the girl scooped her up again. It seemed the consecutive battles were simply too much for the poor thing. Had it not been for her Roost earlier, Emolga would’ve been knocked out a while ago. This was a clear misstep of Charlotte, and was something she’d definitely need to work on from here on out. “Are you okay? Anything broken?”
“...Emon emon…” The Emolga whined, causing the girl to glare up at the Squirtle, who simply glared right back at her. However, the girl’s glare seemed to cause the rather cautious Pokemon to back up a bit nervously.
“Oh no you don’t!” Charlotte scolded, taking out another Pokeball and enlarging it. “You started this fight, now you’re gonna finish it!” The girl pulled her hand with the ball back and threw it in front of her. “Go!”
Upon landing on the ground, the white light that came from it formed into Totodile, who blinked rather confused at the Pokemon in front of her. “Toto?” The croc tilted her head before looking over at her Trainer. It didn’t seem like Toto had even noticed that Emolga had been knocked out, but she knew Charlotte was mad for some reason. The croc then looked back to see that the Squirtle was glaring at her, and it was clear to Toto what was happening… Another fun battle! Goody! “Dah!”
“Toto!” Charlotte called out. “Use your leer attack!”
“Dah!” The Totodile quickly obeyed, reflecting the Squirtle’s glare with an intense stare of her own, instantly deflating the Squirtle’s stern glare. The Squirtle was clearly taken aback by the Totodile’s ability to intimidate, giving the teen the opportunity to strike.
“S-squir…”
“Alright, Toto! Use your Scratch attack!”
“Toto!” The Totodile replied as she started running forward, claws on her right paw bared, and swung them upward in an uppercut like fashion while the Squirtle was still struggling to recover from the Leer and the Paralysis Emolga’s Nuzzle had caused.
The Squirtle yelled out in shock as she was knocked back a bit, now becoming quite a bit overwhelmed by the Paralysis. The girl grabbed her only empty Pokeball left and tossed it in the air before catching it and throwing it at the weakened Squirtle. “You’re mine!” Charlotte yelled out, and though the Squirtle made an effort to duck away from the ball, it still hit her tail and swallowed her up, much like how it did for Toto.
Now all Charlotte and Toto could do was wait...
