There was a stir in the cloud of dust. A shadow. A glimmer of light. Something just out of sight; something that moved too fast for anyone to see through a pair of binoculars. Kane lowered the tool away from his face and used his own two eyes to try locating the source of the movement. Confusion and a tinge of fear was reflected on the Ranger's face as he scanned the immediate area, but this expression was swiftly replaced the moment he heard a metallic shiiing, not too different from the sound of sword being unsheathed. It came from his right, and Kane dared not test fate by lingering long enough for the presumed blade to meet its mark. He yanked on the reigns, forcing the Arcanine to turn and run off to the left, just far enough for Kane to safely glance over his shoulder and see what was attacking. Sgtfqj_Tp_

Kane McAlvin A random event has occurred!Kane's maneuver was not a moment too soon - he was able to see the mastermind behind the collapses. It was a greatsword-sized Honedge - easily his own size. A smaller one, about the size of a shortsword, circled around the hilt of the larger one. Both of them notice Kane and the Arcanine and pointed their business ends at them, as to say "En garde!" Well it seemed that the Ninetales was none too happy about its current capture. He couldn't blame the Pokemon for that...it was a tense, long fought battle that ended in its capture, of course it would be upset. While others may caution Koa for what he was about to do, he let the Ninetales out of his Pokeball. It growled and barked at Koa threateningly, but he remained calm and pulled out a potion "It's alright...it's going to be alright. I know you're scared...angry...I'm not sure what happened, but this kind of attack isn't the answer..."
He tried to approach with the potion. Ninetales growled louder, but Koa managed to spray a few spots on its body. "Don't think I've ever seen a Ninetales that wasn't Alolan...and certainly not one this big." He said in awe as he kept spraying the Ninetales. It began to calm down, confused by the trainer's kindness. It had assumed the trainers had come to take more territory, but was that not the case? It sat back, healed up as its tails waved slightly.
Koa let out a whistle and climbed on Stoutland as it returned to him. "You can stay...or leave. I don't want to force anything on any Pokemon. Stoutland, look for Kane's trail. We should rendezvous." He said as Stoutland sniffed at the ground before it barked and ran off in Kane's direction. The Ninetales seemed conflicted, but in the end, followed Koa. He had proven himself. For now.

Glancing back, Kane could see a pair of Honedge posed and ready to fight. The tips of their unsheathed bodies faced the fleeing Ranger and his mount with silent hostility. However, given the fact that they were stationary and made no attempt to pursue, it seemed as if they were content with having the intruders leave the premises. Unfortunately, Kane's perception of the situation was wrong, for the smaller of the two wild Pokémon was quick to prevent them from leaving. By barely even moving, it had sent its shadow ahead. The dark figure trailed along the dusty ground, positioned itself in front of the running Arcanine, and emerged in the image of a Honedge. It slashed once -- landing a firm blow on the fire canine -- then disappeared.
The police-issued mount howled in pain and began to move sporadically. More specifically, the Arcanine was bucking like a Tauros trying to free itself of its rider at a rodeo. Kane tried to calm the massive beast but unfortunately failed in his efforts. The police dog was trained to traverse danger landscapes and carry heavy loads, not partake in combat; and so, the pitiful creature reacted poorly to the sudden appearance of a shadow which had then attacked without warning.
In a matter of seconds, Kane was thrown from the Arcanine. His head thrummed from the nasty blow it had taken, and his left hip ached from the fall. Although momentarily distracted by the pain, the sound of metal sharpening caused him to look up in time to see the alpha Honedge shedding some of its body. It was using Autotomize, no doubt... and the smaller one was beginning to do the same. They wanted to out-speed their prey. They wanted Kane dead for entering their territory.
With a hard swallow, the novice Ranger thew out his Pokéball. "Lick!" he shouted as a massive Panpour emerged from the bright white light. Before the monkey's body could even finish taking shape, it was leaping toward the nearest Honedge to attack. Though the alpha managed to dodge, the minion was less fortunate. While it was still shedding off some of its metal body, Pan the Panpour gripped the blade and licked, his rough tongue and the acidic saliva causing the small Honedge a great deal of physical and mental agony.
The minion retaliated against its assailant with Fury Cutter, and its blade hit its mark with success. The aquatic monkey fell to the ground but was quick to recover. "Lick again!" Kane hollered as he tried to push himself onto his feet. Without a moment of hesitation, Pan raced to attack the smaller Honedge again. The wild Pokémon was fast, and it had almost escaped getting licked, but it barely failed in its attempt. It cried out in pain and grief as Pan once again licked its blade, but didn't react in any other way. In fact, it remained stationary and didn't so much as try to counterattack. It was paralyzed!
This gave Pan plenty of time to get a safe distance away. Attention turned to the alpha who hadn't been part of the combat over the last few seconds and whose lack of involvement began to worry Kane. It didn't take long to realize why. It was preparing an attack. Steel Beam. All the small metallic pieces that it and its minion shed mere moments before were now being collected around the alpha's large body. The metal pieces levitated in the air, slowly taking shape into razor-sharp shards. And the focus of the Honedge's attention? Pan. "Run!" Kane shouted upon realizing this while swatting at the air as if that would help his partner get the message.
The aquatic monkey did as he was told, turned on his heels, and bolted northward, in the opposite direction of where Kane laid and past the paralyzed Honedge. No... not past it. Directly behind it! Pan was using the minion as coverage to help protect him from the Steel Beam attack. The alpha launched the metal shards anyway, either because it was too late to stop the process or because it valued the destruction of Pan more than it valued the well-being its own pack member. Either way, the shards struck the small Honedge, subsequently causing it to faint and fall to the ground with a pitiful thud.
Witnessing this -- even if it was the result of its own attack -- the alpha Honedge grew more hostile. Pan, who had still been struck by a portion of the Steel Beam attack, noticed this and chittered anxiously. "Keep your distance!" the Ranger hollered as he rifled through his bag. Ugh, his wrist hurt so bad! Had he twisted it when he fell off the Arcanine? There was no time to think about that! Pan wasn't too terribly injured yet, but it was only a matter of time. One critical hit with another Steel Beam attack would easily put the Panpour out of commission. Kane knew he needed to get a potion to his partner.
From the look of things, the alpha was once again using Autotomize. It was already injured from recoil, and a critical hit with Lick could have been enough to make the alpha flee or faint, but could they risk it? Pan was the only Pokémon in Kane's party at the moment, so one wrong move could be the end for both of them. Instead of ordering Pan to get close to the alpha in order to launch another Lick attack and risk being struck with swift retaliation, he erred on the side of caution. "Return!" Kane commanded, and Pan obeyed. Or, he tried to.
As Pan raced back to his trainer's side, the alpha Honedge zipped through the air, hovered between the Panpour and Ranger for a brief moment, then slammed itself into the ground. It was using Block. "Pan, Lick!" Kane shouted while simultaneously pushing himself onto his feet. His vision faded for a few brief seconds as pain shot up from his hip, but he pushed through it regardless. As the aquatic monkey grabbed the alpha and proceeded to drag his tongue across its blade, the Honedge pulled itself free from the ground and positioned itself to launch a counter Furry Cutter.
Kane leaped forward and shoved the wild Pokémon from behind, causing it to miss its mark and float a few inches away as it "stumbled." The novice Ranger seized the opportunity to heal Panpour, sprayed the aquatic monkey with some potion, and was subsequently knocked back to the ground with a blown from a metal blade. Glancing up, Kane could see the Honedge floating over him, its shimmering metallic body damp with fresh blood. The Ranger didn't even need to look down at his arm to know that the sword Pokémon had broken skin. "Now!" he shouted, too focused on the task at hand to worry about himself or his injuries.
With that final command, Pan jumped into the air, grabbed the Honedge from behind, and gave it a devastating lick. The alpha paused a moment, perhaps paralyzed... and after a few suspenseful moments, its single blue eye rolled back, it dropped its sheath, and it fell to the ground beside Kane. With a pained sigh, the Ranger laid on his back and stared up at the clouds that rolled by overhead. Pan, driven by fear and concer, raced over to his trainer and gave a few worried whimpers. "I'm okay. I just need a second," Kane reassured with a weak smile. "That was a crazy battle, huh?"
As the white-haired Ranger mumbled on, his Pokémon partner pulled out the first aid kit from the pack. After a few moments, Kane's heart stopped racing so fast and his head stopped spinning. His body still ached, but he forced himself to sit up and examine his wounds. Bruised hip, twisted wrist, bump on the head, and most gruesome of all, a cut along the length of his left forearm. It was actively bleeding, but other than that, it didn't look too bad. "Think it'll leave a scar?" Kane snickered as he got to work wrapping it. Pan the Panpour hooted quietly and pressed against his trainer's foot, as if to say, "That's not funny. Don't joke about that." All in all, it was a decent patch-job for the time being. He'd clean it good and proper then get checked out by a nurse once they got back to civilization.
Speaking of... Where had Arcanine run off to? Kane glanced around but could see no sign of the police dog. "It's a long way back to Russetton," he grunted while pushing himself back onto his feet again, "so we should start walking. The Arcanine will hopefully find his own way back home. It's a dog, after all." The truth of the matter was that the fire canine had run some miles away from the scene and was wandering around the Badlands aimlessly. It knew the way home and it knew the way back to its rider, but it seemed to be uninterested in going in either direction. For this reason, Koa -- whose Stoutland was tracking Kane -- may have run across the Arcanine on his way to reconvene with the other Ranger.

As Koa searched the area for any sign of Kane, he reached for his radio, but before he had a chance to call, he spotted an Arcanine run towards them. Koa's Ninetales growled, but he reached down to stop Ninetales before it attacked "Wait..." He got off Stoutland and held his hands out to Arcanine "Whoa! Whoa there! You're the Arcanine that was with Kane...what happened to you?" He reached into his bag as the Arcanine whined and remained as still as it could. Koa took out a potion and gently sprayed the solution along the Arcanine's injury "There we go...there we go, shhh...it'll be alright." He said with a soft smile. "Get back to Ranger HQ. I'll go pick up Kane, alright?" He reassured the Arcanine as he got back on Stoutland.
"Something happened..." Koa muttered under his breath as he followed the trail left behind by Arcanine. "Be safe, Kane..." He said as he and Ninetales pushed forward to locate their missing partner. Thankfully Stoutland's sense of smell aided in keeping on track and it barked loudly as it started to pick up speed towards the location of Kane's battle. Koa wasn't about to just let him walk home by himself when he's potentially hurt.
It took some time, but he eventually spotted a figure in the distance. Relieved, he called out "Hey! Kane!" As Stoutland approached. "Thank goodness you're okay...I saw Arcanine and got worried. Don't worry, they're still on their way back..." He noticed the bandages on Kane's arm "Oh man, you're hurt...come on, get up here." He said as Ninetales stood back nervously. Koa held out a hand to help Kane and his Panpour onto Stoutland's back. "We'll get you back to HQ as soon as possible...what happened out here, are you going to be okay?" He asked as he looked around for any potential threats. Thankfully it seemed that Kane had everything under control out here and he let out a relieved sigh.
"Looks like things are starting to settle down over here...good work, Kane. Hopefully things will start to return to normal out here but there's a lot about this that bothers me. Russetton's expansion into Pokemon territory without any kind of measure to make sure they're taken care of...and their rage seems almost disproportionate. I'm worried there's something bigger going on that we don't quite understand yet. But! That's a worry for another time, let's get ourselves home safe and sound, alright?"
