January 2021 Updates!
First of all, Happy New Year everyone! We're going to be kicking off the new year with several big changes here at World of Pokémon: Ageos!
The biggest change this month is a significant revamp to how Power Skills work. Now, instead of having Psychic and Aura skills, Psychic and Aura have been decoupled from Power Skills as a prerequisite. Instead, there will be a generic Power Skill, which can have almost any source you want and be named anything you like! The Power Abilities themselves are largely unchanged, but the language has been rewritten to allow for more open-ended refluffing of how your character can potentially acquire and use such abilities.
If you want to have a Power Skill that is not Psychic or Aura, all you need to do is contact a Site Moderator via site PM or Discord DM with your idea. We'll discuss it with you and help you refine it before most likely approving it. Some new Power Abilities have been added, as well, with more to come in the future! For more details, please read the appropriate section of the Guidebook.
As this is a major change to how Power Skills will work, we will be offering a free, but limited, Skill Point re-spec to all characters, whether they originally had a Power Skill or not. If you wish to take advantage of this, head over to the Great Power Skill Awakening thread.
Second, Swarms have rotated! Swarms are where you can easily obtain a specific Pokémon, usually one that is Uncommon or Rare. Each Swarm lasts for one month, and can be accessed only if you otherwise have access to the Route they are on. January's Swarms will be Bulbasaur on Route 4, and Jigglypuff in the Upper Slate City Mines. Please see the Swarm threads in their respective boards for more details.
As this is a new month, monthly features have reset! You can post in the Payroll Department to claim your character's monthly paycheck. If you have done mod posts, you can also claim your due compensation for those. You can also post in the Jeweler's Office to claim Diamonds for being so active!
Third, Urgent Quests will be a new feature going forward! Urgent Quests, while most commonly given out by NPC Questgivers on Discoveries, can also show up on the Notice Board from time to time. Urgent Quests are Quests that are tied to the site plot, and will be displayed in red on the Notice Board. Actions in these Quests can affect overall site plot. If you want a character to be involved in the site's plot, try having them go on a Discovery!
Fourth, we are making some slight changes to the way moderation is being handled in World of Pokémon: Ageos. Previously, if two Content Moderators and/or Site Moderators had their characters thread with each other, their thread could not progress without a different Content Moderator or Site Moderator moderating their thread. This has resulted in Content Moderators and staff members inadvertently being discouraged from threading with one another. We feel this is unfair to those who work their tails off to keep the site running. Therefore, as of January 1, 2021, when two Site Moderators or Content Moderators' characters thread with each other, their characters' players are allowed to answer their own Mod Calls on those threads, provided that the players alternate who answers the Mod Calls every posting round. Content Moderators and Site Moderators who abuse this privilege will have it revoked. All of our staff garnered the community's trust in being fair and unbiased when answering Mod Calls, and this change is a testament to that.
Fifth, there will be a change to how Ride Training is handled. Ride Training will no longer count against your one-thread limit for General Quests. You can still only have one Ride Training thread open at a time, but you can now have it open concurrently with anotther Quest from the Quest Board.
Lastly, I want to give a big shoutout to Tsukistar for the recruiting they've been doing to drum up interest in World of Pokémon: Ageos. While we are not officially recruiting as of yet, we do plan on formally opening the site up to referrals within the next month or two.
Some future updates planned:
- Southwestern Ageos will be the site's first major expansion, adding a total of 12 new areas. Rank 3 Quests will also be made available at this time. This will tentatively be rolled out in March, but can be earlier or later, depending on the number of characters that reach Rank 2 by then.
- Class-specific Jobs and Quests will be added as well, most likely alongside the Rank 3 Quests.
- The Skill Guides for Charisma and Stealth haven't been forgotten about! What with it being the holidays, this has been a busy month, and we're still working on them. We'll get those out as soon as we can, hopefully by the end of January.
- If the site continues to grow, we may be looking for an additional Content Moderator. Remember, any of you can apply for the position, and we will approve most requests, provided you have demonstrated good knowledge of the site's workings!
