Armand Leclair Challenge 1: Blind ShotIt did not take long for Armand to find Darren's cabin near a large cave mouth on the northeast side of the Whitecaps. "Just a minute!" A middle-aged man's voice echoed from beyond the door. Murmurs followed for several minutes beyond that, perhaps testing his patience. A loud popping noise accompanied by a bright pink glow flooded out the cabin's windows. Once the blinding light faded completely, the cabin door swung open, a middle-aged man dressed in hiking gear stepped outside, a Mega-Evolved Lucario following him. The intimidating-looking Fighting-type had to limbo underneath the door from being so tall. "Ah, you must be Armand; we spoke earlier this morning. I forgot to thank you for rescuing my son and I from those horrible Epochs. You see, I've had to work two part-time jobs to stay busy; keeping the Museum running is pretty boring. After what happened though, I'm done being a supervisor down in the mines. It's too dangerous. But what am I going to do to occupy my time?" The man rambled on for a while, his Lucario practicing various punches and kicks made even faster by Mega Evolution. "Oh, I've been much too outspoken," Darren caught himself. "I'm certain you have what it takes to handle Mega Evolution. But rules are rules. Every Pokémon who can handle Mega Evolution needs the power to initiate it, the wisdom to properly use it, and the courage to maintain it. That's what we're here for, right? Then how about we play a little...game?"Darren and his Mega Lucario led the two to a pair of platforms each with an earthen spire in the center, around six feet above the ground its base was on. On one side were five large darts about the length of Armand's lowe arm; on the other was a large, multicolored target nailed to the platform. "Our Pokémon will stand on this side and throw these over the rock in front of the target. That will be their test of power...and precision. That's important, too." What made it so difficult is the spires were directly blocking the view of the target, so Avis would not be able to see where he would be throwing. That wouldn't be a problem for one skilled with Aura, though...right?

Challenge 2: Black Caverns
Once all of the darts had been cast, Darren led Armand and Avis around the twin spires to the opposite side of the platform, where the targets were. Lo and behold, Avis' throws were more accurate than those of Darren's Pokémon. The Mega-Evolved Pokémon and trainer briefly applauded him. "Now, we must move on to the next challenge. The grounds of that challenge, though, are far away."
Darren led the two to a cave mouth that was completely black inside. "Our Pokémon will guide us through the tunnels beyond. Neither of us will be able to see a thing; they will need to guide using their Aura powers alone. If your Lucario is truly ready for Mega Evolution, then this should be a simple task. We shall see if your Lucario has the wisdom, and you have the trust, to succeed."

Challenge 3: Busy Bubble Barrage!Armand LeclairBoth of the trainers and their Lucario emerged from the dark cave, heading up a flight of stairs carved into the mountain. It was starting to get a little brisk, mostly from the altitude. Those in less physical shape or not used to altitude might have needed to get used to breathing thinner air. There was a highland lake with a small peninsula stretching toward its center, its contents filling in the colder months and emptying in the warmer months. The ebb and flow of water caused the size of the island to change as the seasons passed. "Your final challenge as a pair will be to survive the onslaught. However, this time instead of your Pokémon guiding you, you will have to guide your Pokémon," Darren announced. "Stand in the center and help your Pokémon defend both of you from the water-type Pokémon of the lake." Once Armand had taken his place and gave a ready signal, slow-moving Bubble attacks formed from the mouths of water-type Pokémon just below the surface. If he looked carefully, they were Pokémon of species often seen at Professor Pear's lab. He would need to rely on both his own intuition and his Lucario's Aura powers to deflect every Bubble away from both of them. At least he could see how much time he had to endure the assault...

Armand Leclair Avis displayed both masterful communication skills with Armand as well as pattern-reading and Aura-shaping skills well beyond the capability of most of his species. Even as the number of angles of attack changed, Avis kept them all straight and adjusted Aura projections with exquisite precision. It was as though the noble Fighting-type's Aura Sight has transcended Aura itself, able to detect even inanimate objects by measuring the faint fluctuations in Aura of nearby creatures. He was even outperforming his master's Lucario at times. Darren called off the attacks, subtly picking up his jaw. "Splendid!" he couldn't help but let out the most excited cry Armand had heard all day. "It's been such a long time since I've seen such mastery of Aura from a Lucario so young. You two should have no problem with the final challenge." He led Armand through a narrow pass that led to a fairly large clifftop that offered an amazing view of the Emerald Forest. "With skill like that, you should have no trouble overcoming the final challenge." At that, Darren unzipped part of his jacket, revealing a Mega Pendant that hung from his neck. Striking a pose and focusing the pendant's light between the two primary fingers on his right hand, the Pokémon and trainer's motions synchronized for around fifteen seconds. His Lucario glowed in a pink light similar to that of his pendant, the mentor's Lucario Mega-Evolving right before Armand's eyes. "If your bond is not strong enough for your Lucario to mirror the form mine has taken, then you will never defeat me. Show me what you have learned!" With that, the taller, more menacing-looking Fighting-type raised its fists, egging Avis to make the first move... STATS

Darren didn't so much as move a muscle at Avis breaking his own limits, as Armand suggested the Lucario was capable of. With synchronized minds and hearts, the two combined their bonds of trust and enabled Avis to mirror the taller and more menacing form their adversary took. Small wild Pokémon watched in awe as they witnessed the rare event.
Darren's Lucario seemed equally stoic with regards to Avis' Mega Evolution. The large fighting-type flicked its fingers toward its palms, as to tell Avis to "bring it on". Simply performing Mega Evolution was only part of the battle; Armand had to learn to control it, as well. He had to keep careful track of the time Avis spent in this energy-consuming form; too long, and the over-exertion could have far-reaching consequences...

What a close battle it was between the two Lucario. The colliding Aura Spheres hit each other with so much energy that the smoke from the attacks engulfed even Darren. How unlucky he was standing downwind! Once it cleared and he saw the outcome of the battle, the Mega Evolution teacher recalled his Pokémon and slowly walked toward Avis and Armand. "There is no doubt in my mind that you and your Lucario trust each other enough to use Mega Evolution anywhere," Darren acknowledged. There was still smoldering from where the two powerful Aura attacks collided.
"While Mega Evolution is primarily used for battle, you can do so out of battle too. Just remember that extended use beyond minutes at a time puts your Pokémon under a great deal of stress," he continued. "The longer they're Mega Evolved, the more tired they will be when they revert. Warnings aside, if you have any more Pokémon that you want to Mega Evolve, just show them to me. I'll help you get them into shape for it!"
