Metal Monster Mayhem! - Temporary Quest Anyone | Up to 2 characters 6-11 posts per person ★★☆☆☆ ☆☆☆☆☆
Task: A giant Skarmory, among other big Pokémon from the Southern Badlands, have been terrorizing Russetton residents and causing damage to public property. The Russetton police force is overwhelmed. We are looking for brave Trainers to track down and neutralize these threats to help ensure the safety of Russetton's citizens. Prospective applicants will be airlifted to Russetton. Accepted applicants should visit the Russetton Police headquarters; please ask for Tamara Jenny in field ops for further details. Due to its location, this Quest will be automatically Tag-Enabled and Injury-Enabled. Be warned - this task is dangerous!
Instructions: Each post has a word-count requirement of 150 words. After each post, you must roll using [ proll ]. Once everyone has posted, Mod Call for a random event to react to. After reacting to the event, you will roll again. This process continues until one of two conditions occurs: 1) Your individual rolls total 200 or higher and you have reached 4 or more posts. 2) You have reached 8 posts and your individual rolls still total less than 200. Once one of the conditions is met, you will get a Journey encounter. This encounter is guaranteed to be a Boss Pokémon. Each participant will be faced with their own Boss Pokémon to fight once they have met one of the above conditions. You will then write a Player vs. Self battle against the Boss Pokémon. The battle post must be at least 500 words. Once you have dealt with the Boss Pokémon, Mod Call one more time to report back to the Russetton Police to claim your reward. You may optionally make one more "goodbye" post before Mod Calling to close the thread.
Time Limit: This Quest can only be initiated between December 1 and December 31. The Quest can be continued after that, but it must be finished by January 31; otherwise, it will be closed. Partial rewards may be issued at Staff discretion.
Location: Russetton & Southern Badlands
Reward: 300 Pen, +1 Reputation, +1 Fame, 7 Rare Candies, and a random TM. If you successfully defeat the Boss Skarmory, receive an additional 200 Pen, +1 more Reputation, +1 more Fame, 3 more Rare Candies, and a Metal Coat.
Being a ranger meant a lot of things to tyrus, protecting the people was one of them. To help maintain law, order and the general way of life was another. With the russetton police force being overwhelmed and the call for help going out alerting the traveling ranger of the issue he’d have to talk about it briefly with the companion he had at the time, who earnestly wanted to help but had other things come up that took precedence. He understood of course and thanked them for their consideration.
He’d swiftly make it to a proper city where tyrus could get into uniform; get his pokemon rested up and get the team that he had in mind for such events. Whisper was a prime choice as usual, Mack would be a strong second. Then it was Luna, Bell and Buck that would follow suit. His last addition that he had to think about was the Shiny torchic he had captured along side the entire horde back out in route 3. He wasn’t sure why but he felt awfully hesitant about bringing it along. Maybe it was because he still was unsure about what to name it.
That being said?
With his team arranged from most likely to be used to least he’d step out to where the lifts were. He’d have a short flight before he’d reach the badlands but that ‘lift’ would be something he could use to plan if he wished to make one. But then again the ranger had wung most of route three and had come on top with a lot of things so… He had faith in his abilities.
Stepping off of the ‘lift’ once he had arrived the man looked around; there was a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time. He'd probably need to find who was needing the most help; if there were any civilians in danger and… well how far out was the issue really was. But that also would require him to find someone they could talk to first!
”So we better get to where Tamara jenny is… Police station first and well…”
He’d roll his shoulders and start heading off towards the police station; his hands in his pockets and a thoughtful look seemed to spread on his face… He’d pause and glance around; looking a touch uncertain.
”I just hope that no one’s hurt…”

Tyrus Black A random event has occurred! The pilot lead the trainers to a rendezvous point just south of Russetton's city limits, a squad of tacked-up Arcanine, Boltund, and Stoutland standing near her in a line formation. There were several gaps in the formation, likely due to others having recently left for the wilds to the south. A young adult female, dressed in a blue-and-white police uniform, seemed to be relieved to see more people answering the police department's call to action. "Tyrus, I presume? Glad to meet you. I'm Officer Tamara Jenny with field ops. We can begin the briefing now. As you know, Russetton has been under attack from giant Pokémon, and we simply don't have the staff to both defend the city and drive these Pokémon away. Supposedly they're all taking orders from a Skarmory whose nesting ground was forced to be relocated when Russetton expanded southward. It's riled up some other wild Pokémon in the process, too. Your mission is go out there and remove the threats of these wild Pokémon by any means necessary. Lethal force is authorized, though I would hope it will not come to that."Tamara paused to collect her thoughts. "You'll know the Pokémon you're going after by how big they are. They're...really big for their kind." She pointed to one of the saddled Boltund, about the size of one of the Arcanine. "Think at least that big. These Pokémon will be able to help search the Badlands for you, but they're not trained for battle. You can use them to get around the Badlands if you don't have a Pokémon you're more comfortable with. Don't push yourselves too hard; if things look bad, retreat. We don't want any more avoidable casualties. That being said, I look forward to the successful completion of your mission."

Seeing the squad of tacked up arcanine, botlunds and stoutlands standing out in a formation made Tyrus pause. There were a few missing and he had to figure that they were otherwise busy or… Well likely recovering from a hard day's work. He couldn’t blame them for being careful with the pokemon given the situation at hand.
”That would be me Ma’am. Glad to be here. All right.”
The man adjusted one of his gloves and let the woman explain what was going on. Russetton was under attack from giant poken and they didn’t have the staff to defend both the city and drive the pokemon away. The man raised his brow when hearing that the pokemon were taking orders from a skarmory whom seemed to be in command. Hearing that the nesting ground had been mucked brought a small frown to his face.
”That explains why they’re being aggressive and the other mons are listening to them… If it happened to me, sort of it’ll happen to you mentality I bet. I don’t anticipate using lethal force; I’d rather do capture and release.”
Something about that last bit sort of irked tyrus and he’d pat at the top of the first pokeball on his belt. His eyes darted to the boltund; one that was far larger than the others. That would make it easier to find them but… he didn’t anticipate the fight going easy.
”All right. Well I’ll take one of your arcanines; none of my pokemon are rated for riding yet. And trust me I won’t push them or my own pokemon to that point; I’m here to solve problems not create them.”
Tyrus hummed a little bit and stepped forward, if allowed he’d inspect a few of the pokemon lined up; looking rather curious about the whole batch before nodding his head.
”It’ll be interesting to be out on the field again; Hmm. I share your optimism but this also seems like it could be a far deeper rooted problem if the city expands without doing proper re-homing efforts of the mons out in the wilds. Is there anything else I should know before getting started?”

Tyrus BlackA random event has occurred! At Tyrus' mention, one of the Arcanine, slightly smaller than the rest but still plenty strong to carry him, barked and tromped to his side, beckoning him to mount up. The fire-type showed no signs of affection, or even emotion; clearly, it was putting those superfluous things aside for the sake of the mission. When prompted for other advice, the field officer answered, "We've been getting reports that many of the Pokémon that have been encountered are fire Pokémon; be prepared to battle those more than anything else. I need to meet another applicant now. Good luck!" With that, she took her leave, the rest of her Pokémon following her, leaving the chosen Arcanine with Tyrus.

Hearing the arcanine bark brought Tyrus’ attention to the police trained dog; while there was no sign of affection or emotion Tyrus chalked that up to the fact they were on the job. Something that he could respect and work with. His eyes flicked up to Jenny and he’d nod his head; the mons on his belt would be arranged learning that many of the pokemon were fire.
Mack would be a strong contender here; quite possibly being able to carry this entire mission on his back. The man gritted his teeth however thinking that he might have over prepared just a bit too much if that was the case… But.
In these sort of events that would never be the case. He’d give the jenny a nod and turn to look out towards the badlands. Adjusting his gloves one last time.
”Thanks. Hope things stay quiet here for both the civilians and your sake.”
The last bit was mumbled more than clearly stated; he didn’t like putting too much pressure on the police in the various cities. It always struck him as odd but that was something he’d have to deal with now. Turning his golden eyes down to the arcanine he’d motion for them to get ready. The dog shifting to allow him to climb on.
”Once we get to the area if a fight starts I want you to keep at a safe distance till it’s over. Don’t want to tag you with a water gun by mistake.”
With most of his team being weak to water he knew that Mack would stick out like a sore thumb to the arcanine among it. So with a small nod they’d get going; Tyrus only motioning for them to slow down here or there.
”Hmm…”
It didn’t seem as though anything was happening yet but the man didn’t like how quiet it was. Asking the arcanine to keep to a slow trot the man would inspect the surroundings. Biting the inside of his cheek as he leaned to check some of the brush…
”Coming out this far so quickly… I hope we didn’t miss something…”

Tyrus Black A random event has occurred! What was a "slow trot" to Arcanine was probably much faster than Tyrus was expecting; after all, Arcanine were some of the fastest land Pokémon on the planet! It still wasn't overwhelmingly fast, but might startle him if he wasn't used to riding. Either way, it did not take the fire-type long to find a trail of rather large Pokémon pawprints leading into a tall cave along the Badlands' east side. The cave's scintillating, rainbow-colored walls were tall enough that Tyrus would be able to stay mounted, if he so wanted. If he strained his hearing, he could faintly hear the loud waters of the Arthur River flowing down the mountain that the cave was built into. The pawprints themselves looked mammalian; at times, there was one distinct pair; others, there were two. This meant his quarry likely could move equally well on two or four limbs. Now which Pokémon native to arid environments could do that?

Looking about and finding that they were now in a cave of some kind made tyrus want to take it easy, or rather slow down so that they wouldn’t be caught offguard. This area would be a problem he felt if they weren’t careful. Gritting his teeth the man would decide to slide off of the arcanine and he’d quietly motion for it to stay back just a bit so it could keep an eye out for him. If it sensed danger it’d let him know by barking or something right?
He’d cock his head to one side as he could hear the river flowing down the mountain; they had to be under it or near it enough to where that was possible. He’d frown slightly however upon seeing that there was a pair of distinct pawprints. Rubbing at his chin the man would kneel down; running his gloved finger along the edge of the paw print and inspecting it quietly.
Seeing the other tracks he couldn’t help but notice the distinct pattern and he’d push off of the ground. Shaking his head; there were many options here but all of them pointed to a fire type in his eyes. Maybe he was wrong or maybe it was because he didn’t know the area enough…
One thing was for certain he’d follow the tracks carefully if not a touch quietly. His hand resting on his top most pokeball. He was ready to go if need be and his eyes slid across the area; his head was on a swivel and well… Maybe he’d get lucky to see it first?
He harbored some doubts; given that he didn’t know this area well enough. The few listed pokemon in his head were all fire types but maybe there was the offchance it wasn’t? He’d grit his teeth just a bit and pause to look deeper into the cave…

Tyrus Black A random event has occurred! The rock above them wasn't completely solid; some light filtered down from above, permitting dusk-like vision. Upon closer inspection, and especially when compared with Pokédex App images, there was only one logical conclusion: he had entered a Cyndaquil den. A faint, explosion-like sound from deeper within only reinforced the theory. As the investigation continued, Tyrus heard a second, much louder explosion from deeper within. The guard Arcanine barked a couple of times, as instructed in the event of danger. Shortly after the sound reached him, a stalactite fell a few paces in front of Tyrus and shattered before his eyes. A light source grew brighter and brighter from within as his quarry appeared before him. It was as the logical conclusion expected - a giant Quilava sprinted toward him, blazing fur exploding from its head and rear. It gave him a menacing glare before lowering its head... An alpha Quilava appears! It looks angry!STATS

Tyrus’ head jerked when he heard the faint explosion-like sound; his eyes flicking to and fro; his head kept on a swivel for all of but a moment. It was difficult to see too far with how things were lit but… As it continued? The arcanine barking was enough for him to increase his caution. Stopping just short of the stalactite as it slammed into the ground. He’d hop back a few times; staring towards where a light source was growing from. He’d wave his hand at the arcanine; basically asking for it to retreat to a safe distance.
With the quilava showing itself; Tyrus’ information that he was told at the start was correct. Seeing that it had support of two cyndaquils though? He’d grit his teeth and his hand waivered over mack’s pokeball. Was he the right choice? This quilava looked as though it was very strong. In fact it was even stronger looking than bell who he knew was the strongest mon he had at the moment.
Not the best trained either; with the way that that fire rolled off of the quilava and it’s sheer size? It’s aggression was probably due to the boss that he’d have to deal with right? His hesitation ceased to be once he saw it start to lower it’s head.
That was definitely an aggressive stance if he ever saw one; there was no backing off from this one was there? It was not even two moments later before mack was out of his ball. He practically towered over the cyndiquils but compared to the quilava he was still kind of runtish wasn’t he?
Totodile!
It had been a bit since they worked together but mack was always the most peppy of his pokemon; the large water type was always quick to respond to his commands and before his hand came up mack was already on the move. A torrent of water bursting from his large open mouth. The quilava was much faster than mack though and was already moving out of the way of his attack.
Given that he was unused to seeing pokemon of the quilava’s level it was difficult for Tyrus to track it’s movements. It seemed to already of used a move; leaving behind a layer of smoke that had made mack miss. The other two of it’s kind had decided to add to that threat by increasing it with their own smoke. Making it quite a blockade of the stuff and blowing past tyrus. Making the world seem a little smaller and a little harsher.
”Fast… See if you can lead your shots Mack.”
Mack was all but a shadow to Tyrus; but thankfully the younger crocodillian didn’t seem too terribly worried with it. He could still see tyrus and even if he was fighting three pokemon at once he didn’t seem too bothered by that fact.
The first to attack again was the quilava; he had maybe a few moments before one of it’s long limbs smacked him in the face. But not before he was able to let out a burst of water point blank. Hitting the larger mon in it’s side. For something so big it was really fast and twice as aggressive as the others.
Tyrus could barely make out the commotion of the other two who… well one seemed a tad slow and the other seemed to be doing what all the torchic’s had been doing around it’s ‘leader’’ that was now part of his team. Maybe it wanted to stay out of the Quilava’s way or maybe it was thinking about how best to approach it.
Either that or it knew better to get into the way of this huge mon.
Seeing Mack getting hit like that worried Tyrus a little; since it was such a rough pokemon. His hand drifted down to the back of his belt; where all the ultra balls he had purchased earlier lay. He could catch this quilava; to either add it to his team or try to rehome it. Something this strong would create a problem in some of the areas though right? The other two cyndaquils would evolve and adapt without their leader too…
Mack was met with a gout of fire that was so intense that Tyrus himself had to dive out of the way; the tail and edges of his jacket catching light for a moment. He’d snarl and quickly rip it off of him. He was glad he was the sort to wear extra bits of clothing; else that could have been bad. Seeing mack rolling back and landing in front of him hurt Tyrus a little and he’d get back up; mack doing the same after a few moments. Looking a bit winded and he’d catch the glance of the crocodillian.
”Keep wearing him down mack. Another one or two should do it.”
The totodile nodded his head and this time he seemed to be ready for the blast of fire that blew the smokescreen aside in order to reach it’s target. While this didn’t seem too important it gave mack a direction. He’d shoot a torrent of his own water towards this approaching fire; a nasty hissing sound coming from the two elements colliding and the power of the water was enough for the two of them to escape the heat from it.
The next moment the quilava was up close and personal again; but mack was by far ready enough this time. Sliding under the wide swing of the wild pokemon the totadile shot a water gun right into the chest of the fire type. Almost lifting it off of the ground with the force. Just enough to where Tyrus could make out the difference of the two.
It was a clean hit from and he’d never get a better opportunity here. He barely felt the ultra ball leave his hands; it spun and slammed into Quilava's side; a look of surprise and a small sound of irritation coming from it’s lips before the red of the ultra ball’s light took it’s physical form away.
The ball landed on the ground next to mack who stood up staring down at the ball and then to the cyndaquils. Was he to fight them next? Or was this ball just a momentary stop gap? The water type backed off for a moment; not wanting to engage while there was still this toss up and tyrus flat out didn’t blame him!

He could feel it; the pulse of the ball rolling on the floor. The thrashing of the pokemon within and the anger that radiated off of it in waves. This poor pokemon worked in such a tizzy that it fought and fought and fought… But it simply didn’t have the energy to break free. He could see it within the ball; even now as the thrashing grew weaker and eventually? It seemed to give into the balls demand for capture.
Once it stopped thrashing the human came over, slowly reaching down to pick up the ball. This pokemon as strong but not trained, it would still harbor resentment and he couldn’t expect it to fight for him right away. He could understand the frustration that he felt radiating from inside of the ball. His hand slowly coming down to pet at the top of the ball.
”...It’s all right. I’ll take care of you and your friends. I know we did the wrong thing but can you forgive us?”
He was met with silence as the smokescreen slowly wafted away; the two cyndiquils looked to have fled the moment their leader had been captured. He didn’t really blame them. The fact that mack was the reason their leader lost and he was still looking ready and raring to go? Yeah no they wanted no part of that; the huge sized totodile was playfully bouncing around and he could hear the arcanine approaching.
”We’re going to go deeper in; keep your head on a swivel.”
He was glad to see the pinned up pokemon and glad to see it was all right. Deciding to leave mack out of his ball was a good idea but tyrus was really struggling if he should keep the quilava with him or send it away… Maybe. Just maybe seeing how helpful humans could be and how they could work together would help calm it’s nerves.
He’d send buck away for the moment; understanding that the working dog would get another chance more than anything. But this pokemon needed to see that what they were doing was the right thing. That they could make a difference if they worked together.
Tyrus sighed a bit and glanced at his coat which had finished smoking; stooping down he’d pick it up. Throwing it over a shoulder and trudging forward. Both crocodillian and big ass dog following in his footsteps...

Tyrus Black A random event has occurred!Tyrus headed deeper within the den. It looked like the rest of the wild Pokémon here had vacated when the scuffle started. While the Quilava's Poké Ball still wiggled from time to time on Tyrus' belt as an indicator of dissatisfaction of being caught, it appeared the huge Pokémon's influence on this part of the Badlands had ended. The police Arcanine that took him to the den barked repeatedly. Only one thing remained - it was time to reap the rewards of his good deed by heading back to Russetton to give his report!

With the quilava captured, Tyrus was not surprised to see that even deeper into the cave there was nothing for him here. His expression softened a bit and feeling his pokeball on his waist start to wiggle he’d reach down to pat the ball.
”I’m sorry. But we’ll still show what we can when we can. Just trust me all right?”
He’d smile warmly and with the area being more or less safe he’d return mack to his pokeball after giving the crocodillian pokemon a small rub on the top of their head. A job well done and he’d more than likely get some nice r+r later.
Turning his head to the arcanine Tyrus would mount up and motion that he was ready. It wouldn’t even take that long to get back to the city right? He’d have a report to give to Jenny but that was going to be really easy.
A simple single catch that had completely destabilized the local pokemon’s wants to fight and cause issues. But that was just a small bandage on an overly problematic wound that would just fester if left untreated. Suffice to say? Once he was back the man would dismount and search for the jenny; giving her a small if not somewhat chipper lazy salute.
”Well the culprit in the cave ended up being a quilava. Quite a big one too. Managed to capture it and the pair of friends it had made off. If there were any other mons in the region they fled too… No sign of the defacto leader though.”
He hoped that someone had better luck than he did in that regards… He didn’t like the thought of them being out there still.
