IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
Finally. Freedom. Not that she'd felt trapped, but Marinda was happy to be off on her adventure. Finally. She had received a Wooper from her father, who had met a breeder that was passing through and happened to have some Pokemon that he had no specific plans for. The Yanma was... well, to be honest, she still had no idea what the heck happened with him. She assumed he had been chasing something and gotten lost or the wind had taken him a different direction than he'd planned and he'd crashed by an oasis near her home. Peri did what any normal person would do: she helped him out. A lot of others seemed a bit unnerved by him and, well, she had to admit he was big. A bug that size was indeed a bit chilling, but she had a special advantage: she could talk to him. It had taken a while before he really said anything, but... Well, anyway, now she had her two partners, a stash of Pokeballs, and had made it a point to bring a plethora of what she'd gathered over the years. She just hoped nothing would go terribly wrong. 197 WORDS; Party: Algar 3E, Aimee 3E

IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
So far so good. Nothing catastrophic happened in the fifteen minutes or so that Marinda was walking along. In fact, nothing much of anything was happening. Usually, she would've seen a Pokemon or animal of some kind but... nope. Hmm. This thought prompted the woman to take a more focused look around. What she discovered was that the area was probably so quiet because it was the middle of the day. Most animals in an arid region like this would find a cool place to stay out of the heat for now. Or, in the case of some reptiles, they'd sunbathe... like the Charmander draped over a boulder a little ways off the beaten path. Ant actually squinted at it, not quite convinced that her eyes weren't playing tricks at first. She considered, at first, just letting the creature be, but there was occasionally birds of prey that might snatch up a sleeping creature like that and she worried over it. Initially, she just tried to make some noise, even tossed a few rocks toward the fire-type. Nothing. She was pretty sure the creature didn't even acknowledge her. "Uuuuh," Peri mulled over what she should do next. If it wasn't reacting to that, it probably wouldn't react to a shadow overhead, either. "Hey!" Making her way closer, she made some more noise, but only when she was within arm's reach did the lizard actually look over. She grumbled at the human and yawned. Marin just stared at the Pokemon and shook her head with a sigh. "You can't be out here like this. At least not if you aren't more attentive. What if a Mandibuzz came around? You'd make a good snack, you know?"The fire lizard looked... unconvinced and shifted, apparently about to just fall asleep again. "HEY!" A little exasperated, Ant planted her palm against her face and dragged it down with a groan. "How about this, then? You come with me and you can rest all you want, 'kay?" Pulling out a Pokeball, she held it out to the Charmander. "I really don't want to see you get snatched up by something mean," she tried to convince the Pokemon. 369 WORDS; Party: Algar 3E, Aimee 3E Attempting befriending. Pokecharmer feature.

IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
A heavy sigh of a relief slipped from Marin as the Pokemon lazily rolled closer and tapped the ball--or, actually, more like slapped at the button. At least the little thing was safe now. Taking a look up toward the sky, the budding farmer went back to the path and continued on her way north. This was still a good day! A good start to her journey. It was a little stressful, having to save a poor wild Pokemon like that, but... hey, could she really be upset about a new companion? She wasn't going to really want fire-types on her farm, but this girl was... well, she was just so chill, that Ant really couldn't imagine she'd make any problems. Might be nice to have a bonfire pit on her farm. Nice nightly parties for friends. Aimee would do great at keeping fire under controll, too, she was sure. Now all she needed was a name for the Charmander. She'd think of that later, though. 166 WORDS; Posts: 3/15; Party: Algar 3E, Aimee 3E, Charmander 3E

IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
Feeling pretty good about her decision to take in that Charmander, Marinda was just moseying along at a good pace. There was no rush. It didn't take long for her to feel just a little lonely, though, and she released Algar to accompany her. The large dragonfly was delighted to be out and went zipping around the sky, buzzing his thanks and chittering excitedly. Human and Pokemon spoke for a little bit in the language of Yanma before he wanted to go off to scout ahead for her. She suspected he'd do that and simply expressed that he should be careful and come right back to her if anything came up. That was that for quite a while as she walked along. That is, until Algar came back in a flash, expressing concern and the need for expediency. So Marin ran after him, no questions asked. She fell a little behind despite his attempts to slow down, but that didn't matter as long as she could see him up ahead. It was quite a ways that she ran, nearly ten minutes off the actual path in a small gathering of bushes. As she got closer, she could hear the rattling of a chain and distressing squeaking. Slowing down, she took a moment to catch her breath as Algar circled overhead. Confusion was etched on Marin's face as she slowly approached the plants. "It's okay," she tried to express, not sure if she was lying or not. Pushing her way into the bushes, she saw the spike driven into the ground and the chain attached to a trap. Caught in the trap was a struggling Sentret. She appeared to be the runt, it would seem, which would explain why no others of her species was around. "Ssshhh, sh, sh, it's all right, little one. Let me help," she murmured quietly as she trapped the chain halfway so the wild Pokemon couldn't struggle as much. The trap had done some damage, but it didn't look like it was cutting the normal-type yet. Shifting a little, she freed her hands so she could reach out and attempt to open the trap. (I accidentally posted on Ebblow so roll was 28.) (strength check with -3 - failed) All she accomplished was causing the poor Sentret to scream and struggle. Carefully releasing the trap, she watched the poor creature a moment, gulping. Could she do this? Should she hurry back to town, get someone else? Would the Pokemon still be here? Would she end up more hurt? Marin grit her teeth and tried again. (Roll was 7.) (strength check with -3 - failed) The trap started to shift, only for her fingers to slip and a cry to come from the Sentret. Ant winced, bringing her hands to her face anxiously. She had to do something. Now she definitely couldn't just leave, but what could she do...? Taking a deep breath, she looked more closely at the trap. It didn't appear to be specially treated or anything so a Pokeball's beam would most likely not be interrupted by the trap... (Roll was 47.) (learning Sentret language, -5 due to anguish - failed) 'I'm so sorry that I hurt you,' she attempted to express in the Pokemon's own language of squeaks. By the look of confusion on the Pokemon's face, she could tell she messed something up, but she tried again. (Roll was 42.) (learning Sentret language, -5 due to anguish - failed) 'It's okay, I want to help. Just... um...' The situation made it too difficult for her to grasp the language, so she gave up for now and reverted to human speech, hoping to get her point across. "Look, I can't open this trap... I'm not strong enough, but I think that... if you enter this Pokeball, you'll be free and safe and I'll take care of you. I swear it. Please... try to trust me..." Slowly, she removed the Pokeball from her bag and set it gently within reach of the Sentret. 627 WORDS; Posts: 4/15; Party: Algar 3E, Aimee 3E, Charmander 3E ···J8TJCq3q

IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
The Sentret looked at her and reached out to tap the button on the Pokeball. Marin had been right, the trap wasn't specially electrified or something to mess with the mechanics of the capture device and thus the Pokemon was free of the painful snare. The woman exaggerated her relief by flopping her arms onto the ground, forehead set upon the dirt. "Thank goodness," she murmured to herself, giving herself a moment to bask in the thankfulness she was feeling. Adrenaline caused a tremble in her muscles, but she reached out to pick up her newly habitated Pokeball and stood up. Forcing her way out of the bushes, she almost immediately felt Algar touch her shoulder, wings still beating so he didn't put his full weight on her. That did cause for some interesting things to happen to her hair and it was quite a rush in her ears, but she laughed. "We saved her, buddy. Good job!" That's when she realized that if there was a trap, the poachers were likely to return at some point and she should be hurrying away to avoid being caught herself. Taking off at a brisk jog, she made her way east, trying to meet up with the route north toward the city. Thankfully, she had some survival skills since she didn't want to head right back to the road in case they traveled along it too. Q|ze4ybNp_(survival roll to traverse off-road to avoid detection, +5 from skill - passed) Good, she was able to keep herself mostly on track. It was easier on the more open terrain between the badlands and the grasslands since it was much more open but that's what she was used to, anyway. It did take some maneuvering to keep off the well-beaten path, though, and she mostly used the position of the sun to guide the direction she was heading. While she was off the beaten path, though, she figured she might as well be looking for something to gather. So she started to test the wind, which was minimal this particular day. Then she looked around for tracks to see if any Pokemon might have been through here recently enough for her to follow since they probably would have wanted food and could lead her to it, if so. p_(survival to find tracks, ignoring bonus from skill and giving -5 for dry search - passed) There was some! Taking her time, she followed after the tracks. Looking for indentations in the ground or broken grass, anything to give a hint that something had passed by somewhat recently. The question did remain, though... what kind of Pokemon did these tracks belong to? As she followed the tracks, she tried to pinpoint a footprint to see if she might be able to figure out an idea of what she was following, exactly. While she was able to find a partial track, she couldn't make out the entirety of it in the sandy ground. That was one difficult part about this particular terrain but it just meant she had to really look for a separate track too. 491 WORDS; Posts: 4/15; Party: Algar 3E, Aimee 3E, Charmander 3E, Sentret 3E Survival skill training attempt? ·

IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
Following the tracks she found became easier and easier as she went. They became clearer and more obvious as she got closer to the source, but she had to pause after a bit. These... would not help her find what she was hoping to find, she realized. The large trail of a moving Onix would not lead her to berries, but would more likely lead her to minerals of some kind. She paused, looking over at Algar who had stayed hovering near her as she tracked the Pokemon. "So... let's not interrupt an Onix's day, huh?" With a buzz of confirmation from the Yanma, the two diverted from the tracks, attempting to continue on their way without disturbing the creature they'd been tracking. Unfortunately, they had followed the tracks quite a way and she wasn't entirely sure how close they were, so she attempted to be as quiet as possible. O3fG3si6p_(stealth for avoiding detection - passed (barely)) Moving along, Marin could hear the movement of the rock snake and nearly tripped over a dried out bush. That certainly would have alerted the Pokemon, but she let out a silent breath of relief that she avoided it. She did mouth an apology to Algar before returning him, as she didn't quite have the strength to support the giant bug on her shoulder but thought the buzzing of his wings might draw attention, too. Eventually, she managed to get out of range of the Onix and let out a sigh of relief. IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
Although she was clear of the Onix, it seemed she was not clear of another Pokemon. Marinda wasn't paying close enough attention and stepped on a mound of dirt. It wasn't just any mound of dirt, however. It was a Diglett just beneath the surface that she had stepped on and he was quick to pop out and angrily declare what a rude individual she was and demand that she do something to make it up to him. Although his anger was clear, he was talking much too quickly for Ant to fully understand what he was trying to say. In fact, he'd come out of the ground so quickly right beneath her foot that she now lay face-down in the dirt. She had already corrected this and was looking back at him, but it still took her another moment to stand and brush herself off. This, apparently, was construed as her brushing the Diglett off and he Screeched his disbelief at her. Lifting her hands to cover her ears, Marinda grimaced against the move aimed at her. As it faded, she looked at him in shock before seeing that he was adjusting with the intention of attacking her again. 7QAlbm0Kp_(agility roll to avoid getting Sand-Attack direct, +5 - passed) Quickly moving to the side, she let the dirt that was aimed at her pass by and she shook her head. "Man, I didn't mean to step on you! Aimee, come on out!" Although Peri didn't want to hurt the wild Pokemon for no reason, she didn't think he'd be as quick to give her a chance to explain herself so she figured a battle was the only way to deal with this. "Use Water Gun!" The Wooper was a bit surprised by the sudden action and fidgeted a little before blasting a stream of liquid toward the mole. He was quick to dodge by slipping underground and popping up a few feet to the side. Smart boy! Ant was quite impressed, actually, but as he tried to use Sand-Attack again, she recognized the signs and called out for Aimee to dodge. Silly mudfish, though, panicked instead of moving and got hit by the blinding move. "Crap... It's okay, Aimee! Look straight ahead," she instructed. The Wooper continued to try blinking away the sand as she waited... and waited. Marin saw him preparing to attack and quickly called out, "To your right, use Water Gun!" This time, Aimee didn't hesitate to follow instructions and used her move in the direction her human instructed. This time it hit, but it didn't stop the Diglett from getting his Astonish attack in. "You all right out there?"'Yes! I'm... okay,' came the answer as the Wooper prepared herself for more. "All right, good. Let's wait, use your other senses," she began, only for the frustrated Diglett to use Screech. Aimee squealed in pain, recoiling. "Water Gun! Use it into where the sound originally came from!" The Wooper could barely hear her instructions, but what she did hear was enough for her to use the instructed move. It managed to hit and although she only had two Pokeballs left, the up and coming farmer decided this wild Pokemon could be a great companion so she tossed a Pokeball at him before he could get another attack in. 553 WORDS; Posts: 7/15; Party: Algar 3E, Aimee 2E, Charmander 3E, Sentret 3E Attempting capture with Pokeball.

IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL, KEEP GOING
The Pokeball wiggled once and immediately burst open. The Diglett let out an angry noise and disappeared underground. Aimee and her human both braced themselves, expecting the ground-type to pop back up with another attack. A couple minutes passed as they stood there, though, and the tension turned to confusion. At least for Marinda. The Wooper still waited anxiously until her human cried out. "No! No, no, no, come back. Where'd you go?" The woman ran over to where the Diglett had vanished last and peered down into the hole, even getting down to try sticking her eye as close as she could while still allowing light into the tunnel. She continued to alternate between murmuring her dismay and calling to the Pokemon, trying to offer him berries or anything she could think of. Alas, he was gone, and Aimee expressed her reassurance to her human as she came over to stand beside her. Marinda knelt next to the whole, head hung in disappointment. "He would've helped us a lot when we get our farm... Digging his tunnels would be a great way to till the field and make holes for the seeds," she expressed sadly, giving Aimee a gentle rub on her moist head. "Let's return you to your Pokeball, then, and be on our way. Good job against him." With that praise, she returned Aimee and slowly brought herself back to her feet, grumbling faintly. 240 WORDS; Posts: 8/15; Party: Algar 3E, Aimee 2E, Charmander 3E, Sentret 3E Tyrus Black Italicized quotes are Pokespeech!
